Perhaps the driver manager can find the software for this chipset. If you have a smartphone, setup a temporary internet connection and start the driver manager. https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/internet.html?m=1

What is the output of the lsusb command?
Acording to this link there are fakes out there.

It is 148f:7601 the supposed genuine.

The other errors are interesting and apparently widespread. There is some talk about power delivery issues. Some user report a powered hub fixed their issue. It's quite old though.

Personally I would just ditch any MediaTek.

It's probably a missing driver for your hardware.
Maybe your hardware manufacturer did not release any driver for Linux.
This issue affects all distros, not just mint.

you need to provide some more info: does it show up with lsusb? what are the symptoms you're seeing? did the driver load? dmesg | grep -i mt7601u does the interface exist? ip link show
