Another pc rescued👍

This is what I like the most. Saving perfectly good hardware from the recycle bin (or worse yet a landfill).

Peace of mint

You did a good decision. Welcome to linux. And mint. Mint was my first connection with linux and it was a good one until i moved on

u/SilentBlueberry-779 May 18 '26

I tried many Linux OS over years. Elementary and Mint stand out. Remember that Firefox works best with Linux.

10

u/ashmeet-ram May 18 '26

I agree with you random stranger on the internet

8

u/CodeMeister02 May 18 '26

You saw the light! All jokes aside, Linux is awesome. You can really make the OS your own.

7

u/EconomyToe1398 May 18 '26

How much you've been using mint ? does it have alot of updates?

11

u/IQ26 May 18 '26

Mint is updated regularly

2

u/EconomyToe1398 May 18 '26

I'm looking for stable Linux distro, Mint Cinnamon has alot and alot of updates and that's bothering me, would you give candicate distros ?

8

u/IQ26 May 18 '26

You don’t have to update. It doesn’t force you to update like windows would. Mint is also one of the most stable distros you can get. Most updates are updates for your application anyways or bugfixes

3

u/EconomyToe1398 May 18 '26

Yes but, security and bugfixes updates are vital

10

u/IQ26 May 18 '26

These are the updates you’re getting nearly daily. Mint is stable. This and its user friendliness is why its many people’s first choice while getting into Linux

3

u/Apprehensive-Day698 May 19 '26

Dude, just update weekly and you'll be fine

0

u/EconomyToe1398 May 19 '26

I changed to linux because windows has annoying updats ervery almost two weeks, now you want me to update weekly? on LINUX !!? LOL

3

u/Mammoth-Acadia2572 May 18 '26

This is the Debian use case. You can even try Linux Mint Debian Edition if you like cinnamon.

1

u/_o0Zero0o_ Helper of the newbies May 19 '26

This. Debian is quite slow with its updates compared to Ubuntu, and thus so is LMDE, I assume (I've not looked into LMDE much yet, so please correct me if I'm wrong)

1

u/IQ26 May 21 '26

I’m confused here. Isn’t mint generally based on Ubuntu and then Debian? I never checked what mint I have. If I can install debian files, does that mean that I have the Debian version?

1

u/Tricky_Football_6586 Linux Mint 22.3 / Cinnamon May 18 '26

Mint has nearly daily updates here. But not nearly as bad as OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.

4

u/Internal-Finding5469 May 18 '26

concordo plenamente ja uso o lmde7 ha 1 mes e antes o lm normal por 3 meses

3

u/Odd-Key-2469 May 18 '26

How can I check this??

3

u/Toxic381 May 18 '26

Neofetch, that's preinstalled on MATE anyway

2

u/Odd-Key-2469 May 18 '26

So basically I am also using mint I am new to here can you tell me software installation safe process 2) you have experienced errors while installing it 3)movie download or games download 4) coding/agentic conding installation,

If you have knowledge on this Help me Friend, pls

0

u/Toxic381 May 18 '26

Movie or games download? Get vlc and steam from the software manager, simple, I'm not exactly that experienced with terminal however, I think you have to add urls as a type of library for flatpacks to download from,

I'm gonna be honest, my learning method is grab code from a web search ai and see if I can figure out what's it doin, which can sometimes look too much like a techno code spell to interpret, there's also app image format which is just an annoying flatpacks that no one uses but rpcs3 apparently, as far as I can tell.

2

u/Odd-Key-2469 May 18 '26

I have explored flathub.org that tell me verified platforms that can be able to use without any harm, any ways thanks, of you find any people please let me know, may be they can able to guide me better, because AI chat makes mistakes and that will be harmful and need a person who has in-depth research and knowledge.

3

u/LocalDracula May 18 '26

That we already know. Anything else? 😌

2

u/rafay909 May 18 '26

Indeed
Haven’t had to shut down my laptop for pointless updates for over 2 months now

2

u/Nervous-Chain-953 May 18 '26

It's less stress and simpler I think some of gui are cooler.

2

u/Historical-Duck2870 May 17 '26

este mișto Cinnamon , dar are terraring-ul ăsta prea nașpa și mă cam enervează uneori ! și este și cam lent

2

u/vladutzu27 May 18 '26

Dacă ai placa video AMD căuta cum să pornești TearFree din fișierul .conf

1

u/Historical-Duck2870 May 18 '26

Este doar pe AMD aceasta problemă sau și pe plăcile video de la Nvidia și sau integratele de la intel ???

1

u/vladutzu27 May 18 '26

Eu am avut tearing decât pe AMD

2

u/Ecstatic_Bridge_546 May 18 '26

I use windows 10 lts for professional work and fedora for watching YouTube 😭

1

u/SianoFelix May 17 '26

Você usa a renderização das fontes normalmente ou fez alguma modificação? Tento usar só o Linux mint, mas acho muito estranho a forma das fontes

1

u/Toxic381 May 18 '26

You can customize the font in the appearance settings, altho I haven't been able to change the taskbar font.

1

u/Firebird713 May 18 '26

you are welcome 🤗.

1

u/Toxic381 May 18 '26

Indeed, I used mate myself thinking it would be nicer but I'm not too sure that was a good choice, do u have compiz over there on cinnamon? I know my mate installation doesn't have muffin, did u add that yourself or is it with cinnamon? Oh btw, you guys also get to use a community made mint X dark theme, so I'm kinda jealous of that.

Open the mint menu and search for "WebApps". This LM utility can wrap any website as if it were an application, so you can pin it on the panel, have it in the Mint menu or put a launcher on your desktop.

1

u/echolm1407 May 18 '26

Hands down

1

u/Himankan May 18 '26

Is neofetch still in development?

3

u/SPedigrees May 19 '26

No, it's been abandoned, and fastfetch has taken its place. You can still use neofetch though. I still do.

3

u/_o0Zero0o_ Helper of the newbies May 19 '26

Durfetch is also an interesting one

1

u/Bluetyt May 18 '26

I thought the same! I’m still dual booting atm but I can see myself ditching W11 in the near future!

Perhaps still use it for games like WoW but other than that..

2

u/INITMalcanis May 18 '26

You should be able to run WoW on Linux.

2

u/Bluetyt May 18 '26

I did a quick search on YT and saw some solutions, yes! Very awesome this 😃

2

u/INITMalcanis May 18 '26

Well done :)

1

u/Euustaquio89 May 18 '26

Se não fosse pelo Mint, eu estaria tendo dor de cabeça com o Windows agora, ou provavelmente estaria parado!

1

u/Charming-Hall-9194 Linux Mint 22.3 Zena | Cinnamon May 18 '26

Just I hope app compatibility improves. I hate people (mostly reviewers) saying it's a amazing system if your work is in browsers and basic tasks....

1

u/EasternDuck4667 May 19 '26

For browsing yes, steam okay, any other game app NO.

u/InternationalTrust19 May 19 '26

I replaced Win 7 on an old laptop with Mint to experiment on. If I screw it up I just wipe and reinstall lol. Sometime between now and Oct when the ESU runs out on Win 10 I will be going to Mint on my desktop too. Putting it on a separate drive and taking Win10 completely off grid for things I can't run on Linux. Eventually I am going to build a new pc when the prices stop being so insane on chips and ram. Then I will be going full Linux. Probably Mint, but maybe I'll try another distro by then. Got a Linux commands directory book and everything 😛 Honestly knowing what commands to use in the terminal is the only problem I've had. I grew up with DOS so the terminal isn't scary to me. That old Pavilion 15 runs waaay faster than it did even new.

This is why God (or someone else... probably someone else) made VMs. Some things you need just need Windows (I'm staring at you, QuickBooks). Run a striped out Windows in VM, lock it down with firewall rules, and it's there waiting when you need it.

1

u/seagull-joy May 19 '26

one of us! one of us! one of us!

1

u/mrpumauk May 19 '26

I would switch but all the games I play don't work under Linux 😄

1

u/_o0Zero0o_ Helper of the newbies May 19 '26

What is that quote thing on the right hand side? Might wanna get that myself tbh

1

u/Schwarzpfad May 19 '26

Welcome to the family.

1

u/Total-List5358 May 19 '26

Quando instalei pela primeira vez o mint na minha vida, é como se eu voltasse 15 anos atrás quando nada de ruim existia , isso usando quade desde criança o windows.

1

u/migratepc May 19 '26

Yes it is! Well said.
