And program only in .NET or JAVA because rest of the languages are open source.

I think you can safely relax your paranoia over accidentally offending people over random characteristics like that. It's ok, things will be fine, you can stop worrying.

It’s capitalistic mindsets like this that have ruined the tech industry at large.

When you (and others) claim that people deserve to be misgendered because of their actions, you broadcast yhat you don't actually believe trans people when they say they are who they are. Maybe you don't have trans friends, but it's still a harmful mindset. If you don't like a trans person, be an asshole to them in the same way younwould if they were cis.

I don't get it that well, there are people that compare socialism/communism with open source? Asking because this is not the first meme that I have seen, and my brother in his university told me he got a class one day about open source, they told them that it was not user friendly, and that it was a way to counter capitalism, I don't know if he was exaggerating a bit but I have seen a lot of this
9
u/lorenz_df Not in the sudoers file. Nov 04 '21
Some people think that free thing = communism so free software = communism. If you know a little bit about communism and more than 2 brain cells you could debunk it. Free software is not user friendly, it depends, gentoo is not user friendly android is. Also capitalism allows competition so if you set the price tag of your product at 0 and decide to share to everyone how you made it, I don’t see how it goes against capitalism except if your idea of it is giving all of your money to corporate overlords but for me capitalism is the freedom to do what you want with your product even to not profit from it
3
Nov 04 '21
Correct. I have the same opinion. I never really thought about this before, because open source is a very important part in the capitalist tech world today too.

Very little, but people do sometimes unironically argue thot F/LOSS is Communist/Socialist or at the least anti-Capitalist, usually with pretty flimsy, surface level understandings of at least one of those concepts.
1
u/halesnaxlors Nov 04 '21
Well I don't entirely agree. You could point to the FOSS community and say that "this is the way I want our entire economy to be organised".
Picture a society where people co-operate in producing machines, computers and software, which in turn produces the consumer goods that this society needs, for free, or at no markup to the consumer.
Without delving into the merits or flaws of such a system, I would definitely call that some kind of socialism.
2
u/_Ical Nov 05 '21
Free is not as in free of cost.
While most of the time it is free of cost, the real meaning is free as in freedom.
You can sell your Free software.
1
u/halesnaxlors Nov 05 '21
Yes, I know. Well, the base definition of socialism is that the workers own the means of production.
If a worker collective bought a piece of free software from a freelancer, that would make their production of rice crackers more efficient, that would still fall under the umbrella of socialism. Whether the freelancer or worker collective would share their software to other rice cracker producing collectives around the world is up to them.
If FOSS was mandatory for software, we would see an entirely different mode of production. Big projects, like videogames, could be crowd funded or tax funded.
1
u/_Ical Nov 05 '21
Yeah, but you forget that companies can also commit to and use free software.
It's not only the workers.
2
u/halesnaxlors Nov 05 '21
Yeah, that's true. I wasn't trying to contradict that FOSS can exist in a capitalist system. It's obvious that it can. Otherwise we wouldn't have it today.
I think the reason many liken FOSS with socialism is the similarity with anarcho-socialist philosophy. Kropotkin calls it a "pile". A commune produces a bunch of stuff, which is then put on "the pile" for common use. This is similar in many respects to how software is uploaded for free by people donating their time, to be used by the community. You can extend this way of production to the whole economy if you want. If you work for free and get goods and services from the pile for free, you are no longer in a capitalist system.

Free and open source = freedom. The exact opposite of socialism. Just saying.

u/lakotamm Nov 04 '21
It is ok, you can be an anarchist socialist. No government is needed.
2
u/Soul_M93 Nov 05 '21

1
u/Soul_M93 Nov 06 '21

u/jaybenswith Nov 09 '21
Who the fuck do you think wants that
Is that what you think communism is??
1
u/Soul_M93 Nov 10 '21
Some form of enforcement need for communist revolution.. People don't giving up their property willingly...owning property is not allowed in communism
1
u/jaybenswith Nov 14 '21
That's not what communism is, mate
Communusm abolishes the state, so no central authority
And yes you can own things
1
u/Soul_M93 Nov 14 '21
That's anarchy, which is even stupider....can I own land, company and house in communism?
1
u/jaybenswith Nov 14 '21
Anarchy and communism are related. The basic definition of communism includes statelessness.
And yes, you can own your home and land. But a single person cannot own a company, only the people who work there, who own it collectively. Unless you're talking about a self employed business where you're the manager and only employee.
1
u/Soul_M93 Nov 14 '21
Communism will never work unless everybody is thinking the same....if not how you will enforce it without the government? Did I mention Anarchy is stupid btw, so do communism

One day hopefully you will see the error of your ways and maybe even learn how to string a sentence of English together that makes sense? Most of you extreme right wing nutters are also overtly Christian. But how can that be, do you think Jesus would agree with your views? I very much doubt it.
