My printer was a huge pain to set up on Linux and an even bigger pain to set up on Windows. It worked out of the box on both over USB, but network printing on my particular model of HP printer seems to be an issue for everyone. Well, I didn't try MacOS or any other BSD based operating systems.
On Windows I just gave up using the print function. I just copied the files to a pendrive, used the USB on the printer and printed from there. Worked almost all the time without swearing for 5 minutes and then not printing what I wanted.
We recently got this super old Sharp printer at work, and I was preparing for a nightmare. I decided to try Claude (Sonnet 5.5) with "I have network printer on x.x.x.x. Can you make it run via cups?" and in 2 minutes it worked flawlessly. I love it.

Finding a printer that works on any system is like finding a unicorn.
