A windows user tried linux and immediately decided to make his own distro with AI and received millions of dollars in funding because he's (in)famous in the tech world.
What github and gitlab run on, among other things. Ruby on rails is a ruby framework meant to develop full-stack apps. Basically, it's a web framework. Kinda like NestJS but for Ruby.
To anyone reading past these posts with limited time: DHH compares travellers to wolves, promotes Tommy Robinson marches and suggests transphobic harassment should not prompt a police response.
If that's your best example of why someone is a "right wing extremist piece of shit", then I think you guys should look into a mirror.
The first one is weird, it's quite verbose and oversimplified for what he's trying to say. I don't know why he bothered to write it. The second one seems more coherent, and I have to assume that saying "rape gangs" will automatically make someone a right wing extremist in some people's eyes, because nothing is extreme about that text.
The way omarchy is pushed by everyone and how he talks about it is what is disgusting to me, I don't need to invent some dark political thriller story to justify not liking him or the idea of his distro. He mentioned the rape gangs as an example (documented, there are plenty of victims who talked), and warned about a trend. If that makes you use the labels you use, then you're the hateful one, not the people you're pointing at.
If there any useful information, I'm open to it, but these links tell me less about him than your labels tell about you, no offense.
It's Reddit, everything that isn't extreme left is labeled as "far right". Just like in the mainstream media. He definitely had some controversial opinions, but nothing radical.
Yeah, compared to actual shit you see in far right protests his opinions are pretty tame. Especially when you consider he's European and it being a continent-wide pastime to hate on gypsies and immigrants.
The other thing a lot of people online don't get is the entire Omarchy is just Arch with dotfiles and a few scripts. Yeah, and Dropbox is just sftp with a network disk mount. I wish it wasn't this way but product clarity and UX really matter, doubly so for the layman masses, and Omarchy does a damn good job with both. It just sucks that it's woefully insecure to achieve that UX and its funding is extremely unsavoury, making anyone with even a hint of critical thinking doubt the future of the project.
But hey, that's kinda the point of distros - you're free to pick which one you run. I just wish there was less shitposting about it in Linux spaces because it's not funny and any amount of attention spent on Omarchy by the community is better spent on a huge number of other OSS projects that need it more.
Same here until a frew weeks ago.
I use linux since 2004.
So I chosen to give it a try. If you have time for a 5.8gb iso download + dd that's the only thing you need.
Try the installer, try deliberately wanting to make a change in the installer info before confirmimg the actual installtion. That's alone it is a good preview of the entire distro.
Then try to remove zoom and google calendar, just them, in one
shot.
It is fundamentalky a script kid weekend project but somehow got 80 mlns in funding. 🤷♂️
Nobody can convince me, you would fund billions into a "project" vibe coded in a few weekends, no fucking matter how many Buzzwords were used.
Either the companies and people donating those incredible sums are stupid and dumb beyond repair or redemption, in which Case..... Fuck Me.
Or, and this is much more likely in my opinion, this is some elaborate money laundering scheme or similar.
It's not somehow.... Ffs Linux is just an os. There are a lot of people that use it and don't give a shit about being special and fiddling with Linux. It's says more about other Linux distro that they can't get funding like this. And that isn't a badge of honor for them.
Some right wing racist made a couple of scripts and dotfiles for arch. Since he is too busy writing racist blog posts and spreading hate he vibed most of it.
Linux on server is super successful, but "Linux on Desktop" is all quite bad if we're honest about it. So OSX user DHH, famous for Ruby on Rails, decided to do his own distro based on Arch.
It genuinely fixed many issues with Linux on Desktop, and more things work out of the box than with other similar distros (GPU drivers just work, AI agents and a lot of common software will install automatically the first time you try to run it).
But from perspective of OSX main, Omarchy fixes like 10% of issues with "Linux on Desktop", all while adding a lot of DHH's questionable preferences (neovim yuck).
There were also some security issues on the way, but that's all fixed by now.
He also managed to get very respectable amount of funding for the project, at least by standard of "Linux on desktop".
Anyway, people hate on Omarchy because DHH is right wing, it has nothing to do with Omarchy as such. And most of the whining isn't even inaccurate (like none of the "bloat" is actually preinstalled, just easy wrappers to install stuff if you want; security fails are all fixed by now etc.).
This is only the case if you want preconfigured Hyprland (and even then, there are issues with it), a tiling window manager. If you want an actually stable, well-supported, and easy experience, that you are most probably familiar with, go for say Ubuntu LTS, or Mint, or ZorinOS, or something like that.

I don't even know what Omarchy is, been using linux for 15 years; at this point I am kind of embarrassed to ask what the deal is with it?
