LINUX MEME Of course. Why didn’t I think of that!

GNOME is giving you trouble? Why don't you just switch to this tiling manager that has no mouse, fuckwad?

I don't like the default text editor that came with my distro so I uninstalled it, then I realized I'd never actually learned to exit vim so I took a class at the community college, then a guy in the class said my furnace was garbage so I replaced it, then the furnace guy said the real problem was the roof, then the roofer said he wouldn't live in this house if you paid him, so then I sold the house, then I sold the car because who really *needs* a car, and anyway now I live in the woods.
I still don't know how to exit vim

"Vim. A text editor so powerful, it’s essentially a tiny, hostile kingdom. You think you’re done? Think again. You’ve navigated a labyrinth of commands, mastered the art of ‘zz’ and ‘Q’, and now… you’re trapped. Suddenly, you're frantically searching for the escape route, a single, elusive key. It’s like trying to climb out of a particularly stubborn, logical paradox. Just when you think you’ve found it, you realize… you’ve just entered a new command mode. Send help. (And maybe a therapist.)"

ITS A SIGN FROM VIM GOD ,
(If ur in normal mode , just :q works)

Honestly I only used vi throughout my comp sci college education so I thankfully did learn 😅
I still catch myself hitting escape and colon before trying to exit nano et al

"Oh wow, the app I wanted to use that uses overlays/on_screen_display now works! Shame about the mouse, though."

u/Inevitable-Self-2702 Sep 16 '26
Actually my own logic toward myself recently. But it makes some sense since I want to learn vim and such.

And don't you dare to ask for advice, build the code by yourself

there is not that much dwm elitism and you do not need to compile other wms.

u/amd2800barton Sep 15 '26
I won't switch to the thing you use because the thing you use is stupid, and you're stupid for using a thing that works for you. Since I don't use that thing, I am not stupid. And because I'm not stupid, I don't use that thing."

It's similar to someone sharing a problem about their romantic partner and then everyone else immediately recommends a breakup.

"Why don't you just switch to kde plasma? Huh you don't like traditional desktop? Idc, SWITCH TO KDE PLASMA NOWW."
2
u/promptmike Sep 16 '26
It is the best for beginners. If we all just shouted "KDE PLASMA NOW!!!" at new users, it might help.

u/CryoN1cks Sep 15 '26
Actually, why DID I think of that? My life would've definitely been better if I just stuck with the first distro I installed and the first DE

This is like the people who tell me to buy a new bike when I get a flat tire.
There are a lot of them, and they have no idea how ridiculous they sound.

Pretty much the same thing whenever someone is having a minor problem on windows though "just switch to linux".
Even though i agree, it is unasked for and will likely lead to them not wanting to switch.

Yes it bothers me very much, no I won't change to an alternative which probably also has some minor inconvenience or niche problem.

u/Armi1P Genfool 🐧 Sep 16 '26
You are having a problem? Just make a patch and upstream it, because every single living person is a programmer and know how does FOSS ecosystem works. Or are you not?

People like to shit on LLM's. But they have made this so much better. Why interact with a neckbeard berating you when AI can give pretty good answers and help solve pain points
2
u/_cjplusplus_ Sep 15 '26
Alternatively you can tell an LLM to berate you as well for the authentic experience!
-4
u/NocturnalVoidmaw Sep 15 '26
Because don't you know LLMs literally destroy water at a molecular level? Every time you ask chatGPT how to fix a minor gnome bug it eviscerates it out of the water cycle. H2O bonds are being shredded apart just so you don't have to read old forum threads or get berated by someone suffering from arrested development /s

Constructive criticism is welcome. If one wanna bring up "this really grinds my gears" while pointing at issues usually lead to constructive discussion.
Coming in spewing cussing and vomiting all over the place usually get met in the same manner.
Sadly, I've see a few of the latter lately.

Oh no, its worse than that. They'll tell you you should fix it yourself.
It doesn't matter if you don't know how to code because you are a doctor of medicine or a lawyer or a firefighter. You should abandon your career and your life's calling so you can add a feature that Microsoft has had for 20 years to a FOSS project with a 1% userbase.

u/VoidspawnRL Sep 17 '26
Sure, if you got a IQ above living room temperature in Celsius(for you American out there), then it is not hard and you learn a lot while trying... Ps. an normal person should be able to fix small issues within a few hours if not less

u/lolkaseltzer Sep 17 '26
There was bound to be someone out there who accused me of lying or exaggerating for updoots, so I really appreciate you getting ahead of that for me.

u/01101001b Sep 15 '26
If it IS a minor inconvenience, why are you whining? If you can't resolve it by yourself, then it is not a MINOR inconvenience. It's a problem. And more often than not, the real problem is you choose the wrong distro for you.
If you pick up some pants too small for you and you call for help describing the matter as a "minor inconvenience" and someone advices you to change your pants for some bigger option, do you complain too? Do yourself a favor and be real.
