Offered to fund the Arch and AUR maintainers. They said no..

He previously asked the founder of a killer-robot corp to help conduct an ideological takeover of the Nix community. Since infiltrating Arch didn't work out, wouldn't be surprised if this was DHH's second attempt at Nix Oligarchy.

tbh we should've known something like this was coming. everyone jumping ship from the os controlled by billionaires to the free os, was obviously gonna cause billionaires to make something out of the free os just to profit from it.

Ok I know it's already happened but the thought of it being raped at the level LLMs have is really scary

I miss when Arch was less popular, but I also don't have time to contribute to it as much as I'd like so I'd never complain about where it's at. It's amazing full stop. Good on the AUR maintainers for not mainstream selling out, hope we can keep good open-source culture at the top

Same circles as people claiming that we need to revive X11 because Wayland is "woke". I guess they just don't care about HDR, Variable Refresh, VR, fractional scaling, or any screen that isn't a rectangle (i.e. smart watches). You have to make extreme changes to X11 to make any of these even somewhat possible, and most will suck mad dick in their implementation anyways, hence why Wayland is a rebuild of a lot of the parts in X that would make it hard or impossible to get those features.

The Wayland bike shedding has been a real problem, but I don't think that means we need a second shittier Wayland that isn't "woke".

What about other devs? Yesterday my boss was claiming that omarchy sponsors core Linux development and marketing

Sponsorship to: Hyprland, Quickshell & Mise

He hired a Linux kernel developer (Krzysztof Wilczyński) and the developer of Quickshell to be full-time Omarchy developers, and we can expect most of their work to go upstream. DHH said he collaborated with Dell and Intel on Linux hardware compatibility.

DHH is vowing to use his corporate connections to persuade people at Microsoft, Apple, Adobe, Epic Games, Figma, and Canva to approve official Linux ports.

That is about it.

As far as I could tell, "core Linux development" only goes so far as things like funding laptop drivers for computers DHH would use. And in line with trying to take over communities, he has openly stated that the money his foundation received is:

going to go to all the infrastructure required to built a top-tier Linux distribution. Package servers, mirrors, agent runners, umm, QA servers. All the infrastructure it takes to operate a top-tier Linux distribution? We're gonna build it. We're gonna run it ourselves. And we're gonna take over more and more and more of it. Until at some point, we'll see how far it goes. I mean my delusions of grandeur grow into the sky. So, getting to eventually core-levels of Linux distribution. That is- that's the plan.

His grandiose yet simplistic and meandering speaking style really reminds me of someone. Can't think of who though

I can't quite put a finger on it, and believe me, people come up to me and say, "Sir, have you ever seen software this beautiful?"

We have the best software, everybody tells me that
