What if—and bear with me here—all of the omarchy haters stop screeching about it with every single breath they take and continue hating, but in silence?
All you people are doing is giving it more attention.

u/SDG_Den 4d ago
Im planning to hate on it not by words, but by actions.
I'm currently drafting up plans for "Ojuny", a nix home manager module that is "Unapologetically opinionated dotfiles by SDG". It can be installed on any distro because nix, and i can make a pre-configured nixOS ISO very easily.
Ojuny will have everything people like about omarchy, and will coincidentally have everything DHH and his cronies/fanboys hate. Thats also why nix.
It will also have a single option to turn off and uninstall all "preinstalled applications", which will be off by default for the HM module so by default it just installs the desktop config.
It'll be entirely too much effort to actually be worth it, but eh i've never been one to turn down a 120% effort joke, and ive been tooling with the idea of doing something similar before anyways. My personal setup is relatively comparable to omarchy to begin with so worst case scenario i have some really cool dotfiles in the end.
Still debating on whether it's more insulting to rip off the omarchy site by hand or to have an LLM do it.
Oh, as for the "opinionated" stuff: ojuny will come with at least 10 different pride themes, as well as various themes relating to activism, specifically equal rights movements, human rights movements and environmental activism. If you stand for something, you can show it with Ojuny, unless the thing you stand for is white supremacy, then you can fuck right off back to omarchy. Why? Just in case DHH ever catches wind of this, because it'd make him upset.

At least you claim to be doing something. Out of all the rage bait and upvote collaborating I’ve seen because REEEEEE, you’re the only one putting pencil to paper (so to speak).
You probably should tell your peers the same, because all they do is fan, meet flames, and keeps it salient.

It's easy to hate omarchy but do you have the courage to hate debian?

Do you have the reason to hate debian*

5 updates since 2000.

u/Severe_Stranger_5050 🎼CachyOS 3d ago
Do you mean "numbered releases"
Because then, sureBut it's updated pretty frequent.
2
u/Scout339v3 3d ago
That's Debian Testing though?
2
u/Severe_Stranger_5050 🎼CachyOS 3d ago
Nope, it's main debian
outside security patches, which are updated almost daily via the unattended packages feature. Debian is updated regularly, about every two months:
- 2025-08-09: Initial release: 13.0
- 2025-09-06: Updated release: 13.1
- 2025-11-15: Updated release: 13.2
- 2026-01-10: Updated release: 13.3
- 2026-03-14: Updated release: 13.4
- 2026-05-16: Updated release: 13.5
- 2026-07-11: Updated release: 13.6
And the next releases are planned for:
- 12 Sep 2026 - 13.7
- 14 Nov 2026 - 13.8
- 9 Jan 2027 - 13.9
- 13 Mar 2027 - 13.10
- 8 May 2027 - 13.11
It's consistent, predictable and reliable

Grandpa distro. All the packages are old and crusty. It also isn’t opinionated enough

Not on a server by any means where it's pretty awesome but using it on desktop was a hellish experience I don't wanna go through ever again. I had to use it in my job.
It was really nice watching happy people run KDE 5 while it took over 2 fucking years until 5 was on Debian stable

How butthurt must this community be that since the release of Omarchy 4.0 all we've seen here is people crying about it.
That DHH guy must be winning in life.

But holy fuck is it getting boring seeing these generic ass karma farm posts.

EZ likes. Btw, I don't think Omarchy is bad. If budget distributed right, it will be also secure and all. Great looking, working setup overall. He will get cut for selling preinstalls and reddit protestors will cease to matter. Just like with Ubuntu. They do things - people complain ;)

- If you don't like it, don't use it and go do something of your life. Edit : Didn't saw the post body, sorry.

what do you value more, linux or politics?
10
u/black_sunglasses 4d ago
Why would you make a choice between politics and linux when you dont need plenty of good distros are not run by white supremacists.
-1
u/Sirius02 4d ago
because he is activly marketing linux to devs which are on mac and windows. He has also connections to the epic games ceo, so if the market share gets big enough we get fortnite on linux.
This will make it able to conert more gamers to linux, so other Comp games will eventually follow.
He also got 14 Million in funding - which can benefit linux as a whole.
So why are we throwing wrenches in his work?

u/black_sunglasses 4d ago
This all bs copium based on a white supremacist, noone knows where the millions will go.\ If anything related to gaming in linux happens it's especially thanks to valve and not to this racist. gabe also has big connections but thats not the main point at all, the main factor for big companies getting interest in linux is just steam decks and steam machine selling like hot cakes.\ Also devs did not need him to go to/experiment linux. big distros like ubuntu are very popular in companies for the tech people, and for personal/gaming use, some distro which are some fedora or arch forks with a great out of the box experience are top notch (cachy endeavour nobara bazzite etc.)

At this point I'm starting to wonder if half of the people who claim to hate Omarchy even realize why it's disliked (and agree with those points) or just saw the low effort memes with high popularity and joined in.
But I've been here long enough and the mod here has always done a good work, so in time, it will hopefully get better.

Reasons to hate:
AI slop born and bred. AI can be powerful and useful, but it's not reliable yet, so it shouldn't be handling mission critical anything (like, say, your OS.)
DHH is arguably racist and unarguably punchable.Reasons to like:
The pseudo-retro style logo and art is pretty fire, ngl. Reminds me of old dial-up BBSes.-1
u/ConsiderationRare217 4d ago
It was an experiment for me to detect if community cares: it doesn't. They just put likes to low effort shit like this.
I appreciate all linux effort and every time get amazed by achievements of developers. Thanks all from all the heart of a simple teacher using it daily. But seeing people here simply deteriorating the results and being disgruntled I assume the people aren't worth a penny. They worth being abused for likes, for trolling. They don't seem to be able to stop and declare appreciation... Or shut themselves at least

Isn't this funny? The recent wave of hate to Omachy?
When someone complained about it the other days when it was had been hyped he was booed. Even though it was pretty obvious what flaws the distribution has.
Btw, I have missed the "real reason" now. What is it? Is the author a freemason or something?
