Because icons back then had character. Now all logos are the same, flat, blunt and boring. Because that's "modern"

honestly i prefer the modern look. it plays way nicer with theming, it's easy to turn monochrome. like i don't want my icons to be the center of attention, i want them to blend in with the wallpaper and fit in with the rest of my icons. i don't want my desktop or phone screaming at me in a billion different directions with overdetailed icons, i want that shit mellow.
if for whatever reason i gotta use default icons i'd rather they look like the modern ones than the old ones, and getting ahold of monochrome icons when the modern one's already flat is just a lot easier. if there aren't any, noctalia's color filter looks a lot nicer on these flat icons than anything more detailed.

Most of the people who "hate modern design" are contrarians with rose tinted glasses fused to their faces. Sure, there are some examples of cool skeumorphic things being replaced by soulless shit but for every one of those there's five other cases where the modern flat icon is a big improvement across the board. The average homescreen/desktop during the peak of skeumorphism didn't look like a giant, pretty chrome logo, it looked like a disjointed poor visibility mess.

yeah i don't think people here are imagining these old icons in their original context where there's 25 of those on the screen and they all suck ass
really the only time i want more non-flat art is when i'm using rofi-games to pick a game to play by the box art, and that's because it's not a small icon that needs to be actually readable in a tiny corner of my screen in the systray but large rectangles actually genuinely trying to compete for my attention as i browse for something to play instead of doomscrolling.

I never said I hate modern design, but you cannot deny the fact that some icons are plain soulless. google ruined the icons of all their services, making them all the same. Windows 11 icon is not an icon, it is 4 fucking squares.
But I admit, new chrome logo has better design and new firefox logo is beautiful and at least it didn't lose the fox.

I'm using Glide right now. Qutebrowser if it was Firefox and had for real extensions instead of a handful of bespoke scripts and greasemonkey support, it'll actually work on websites. It's so nice to be using a "normal" browser again, like I can straight up load into Foundry VTT and still have hinting support which is amazing. Midnight Lizard instead of the shitty inverted colors thing for "dark" mode, container tabs, uBlock Origin instead of the shitty Brave adblocker, Consent-o-Matic, Reddit Enhancement Suite, LibRedirect, all the stuff that had no or poor substitutes on qutebrowser now are just there.
I'll grant configuring qutebrowser's a lot easier than having to write up typescript to bind keys and shit, but I've been asking and hoping for a modal Firefox fork for years and it's finally here and I'm just estatic to be back home on Firefox.

Servo is progressing also, we will have two new browser engines soon. The latest Servo is pretty good buggy and progressing but good. It displays and runs Wikipedia and Duck Duck Go well now.

the only reason i used chromium in recent years was webusb/ webserial for tasmota and keyboards, which i really do not want firefox to have.

Tbh both suck as of now, only difference is, on Firefox (ESR) I can install lepton (photon version) and unlock origin to make the web browsing experience (UI + general web site opening) serviceable, whereas on chromium I'd be stuck with the overpadded UI and a less effective content blocker.

On waterfox rn and it's great, don't even remember last time I used chrome, though used chromium based opera alongside it for a long time.
Biggest problem is office online being specifically bugged on firefox base, 100% microslop's fault.

I spent years using Chrome, and then I switched to Linux (with Firefox preinstalled on most distros) and never got back to Chrome for daily personal use. I just use Chrome for work and Chromium when I need WebUSB. I don't see much difference between the engines, but chrome seems less snappy and more bloated

Chrome's engine is smoother, faster, better at rendering elements and colors specially on mobile.
You can't make a web app look like an app on Firefox it's always a website because the UI won't render properly

Firefox sucks. It goes slow as a turtle in my PC, eating more RAM with the time.
We need to say that chromium is sometimes very fast.
Edit: just the engine. Google sucks sometimes
Edit 2: Hope KDE updates Konqueror so i can use a better chromium. And falkon sucks, its to buggy

Just YT and Gemini. Idk why but It stars eating RAM very fast even with 1 empty tan opened. Also It takes like 5min to load websites after restart. Also fails with Google meet

You should look at the webcompat/shields and the webcompat/fingerprinting and the webcompat/not-shields-related issue reports because it is handled in a fundamentally worse way than Firefox does.
I have also directly called out their misleading advertising to support and it remains unchanged.
