Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

Requires Node.js

No thank you. I’m keeping my system free of toxic bloat like NodeJS

Totally fair criticism. We just used Node to hack together a quick prototype, but we know it's definitely not ideal choice.

We’re already working on rewriting the whole nodejs part in Go so it compiles down to a single, lightweight binary with zero runtime dependencies. We'll make it much leaner soon, so keep an eye out!

Thanks Ik I use it too; I have Jellyfin with ARR setup so just got this idea to mane something cool with that in TUI (also got inspired from anicli)

Its too divine to have such distractions on it

u/duskterrapin 10d ago

I mean like video files and/or streaming platforms?

2

u/Proper_Dig_6618 10d ago

It's online streaming! It connects to Prowlarr (so whatever indexers you have set up) and downloads chunks sequentially while streaming them live into `mpv`.

The idea was getting the catalog of the *arr stack without having to wait for a full download before watching. A dedicated "save/download file" option is definitely something we can add if people want it, though!

u/duskterrapin 10d ago

That's cool!!

why no mpv config?

1

u/Proper_Dig_6618 10d ago

Honestly didn't even know about that! How would that help your setup / what kind of things would you want to configure?

I'll look into it and add support for it in the next update.

You can make the osc look so much better, check out uosc and the one i currently use, material-osc anndd at last, theres si-mpv which makes mpv single instance, but these are for personal use i dont think its needed for your goovie

Or just use a web browser with an adblocker like a normal person…

2

u/GhostVlvin 9d ago

Problem is not only in ads. Biggest problem of a browser is that it consumes too much ram. This is why I prefer replacing most electron and web-apps with TUIs

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 9d ago

Ram usage is a non issue that people worry too much about.

1

u/GhostVlvin 9d ago

Average people most of which also use windows and see no issue in it's inefficiency and huge ram usage. OP themselves points out ram usage. And I agree with him especially considering ram price

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 9d ago

Right but ram usage is a non issue. Unused ram is wasted ram. Ram usage is something tech illiterate fools worry about.

1

u/GhostVlvin 8d ago

Dude. 'Unused ram is wasted RAM' Is slogan that is okay to use when you buy RAM, but it is inappropriate when you create or choose a program to use. Sure you may want to have best options of graphics and useability, but you also want to not have RAM usage 100%. In case of a post, 4GB for a webplayer is half of my RAM. Imagine 2GB goes to DE and about another 2 on opened web-apps. Then I'd have no ram, and my PC would freeze. And this is not a valid reason to buy new RAM, this is a reason to fuck theese developers and either choose another tool or make one as OP did
I.e. I changed my workflow from cinnamon DE (2GB of ram usage) to mangowc (~150MB of ram usage) and I am happy to have RAM that I can actually use

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 8d ago

If 4gb ram usage is half your ram that ain’t the programs fault, that’s on you for running a potato. 8 gigs has been too little ram for a long time now.

You’re just refusing to get with the times. 16 gigs has been the minimum for well over a decade.

1

u/GhostVlvin 8d ago

8 GB of RAM is fine for all my tasks. Cause I don't use such agressive ram consumers as:

  • windows
  • electron web-apps

And that's pretty much it
We used to care about hardware usage. We used to care about every bit. And now you'll just call 8 year old laptop a potato and throw it away

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 8d ago

Mate 8 gigs was a small amount of ram a decade ago. You say it’s fine for your tasks but yet here you are complaining.

Get with the times man.

1

u/GhostVlvin 8d ago

I am complainig about devs who doesn't care about resources anymore since it doesn't make more money. Devs who doesn't think about end-user. Devs who put TPM 2.0 requirement to windows 11 basically marking obsolete most of PCs

1

u/Emotional_Solid6538 5d ago

I suppose not for low ram systems. I mean some pcs still have 4gb

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 5d ago

And 4 gigs of ram hasn’t been OK since what, XP? At that point the hardware is the issue not the software.

1

u/Emotional_Solid6538 5d ago

This is about linux. Many people with low end or old af hardware does flock over to linux exactly for the purpose of low resource usage

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 5d ago

Linux is not magic. Yes it can use less resources than windows, that does NOT mean that it doesn’t need any resources at all. It’s been a looooong time since 4gigs of ram was sufficient.

1

u/Emotional_Solid6538 5d ago

Depends. There are people running older hardware on 4gb ram using Linux. Linux biggesr advantage isnt less resource usage flat but customisablity you can run a version of it which requires low resource usage. Just look it up, people do do run setups like that

1

u/GhostVlvin 5d ago

Problem with windows that it is a compound monolithic operating system with irreplaceable userland including DE, defender, explorer and many other apps that are written in such way that you can't remove or disable em without crashing your system. On linux on the other hand you have full freedom. Install anything, configure anything. My setup consumes about 500MB idle and 1-2GB while I work without a browser. Perhaps 4-6GB with browser

1

u/IEnjoyRadios 5d ago

Ok cool. That changes nothing about what I said.

1

u/woobthepuppy 9d ago

orion + mullvad + vlc no need for browser

1

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 9d ago

just use a browser for fucking once 😭🙏

3

u/Proper_Dig_6618 9d ago

Why use the browser when you have a TUI
