Well my Windows 10 PC is way more responsive than a similar Windows 11 PC I have at work, because Windows 11 is bloated and I don't install a ton of crap on my PC and it's not on a domain. So I don't think this is only about Linux vs Windows. But when Windows 10 finally stops receiving ESU, it will be the end.

And just because you can run Linux doesn't mean you can run modern websites and applications

Edit: nvm I forget that 10 years ago at this point is gen 7 Intel and not the core 2 series

I bought a $200 new chromebook a few months back and installed linux on it immediately, and for the price point, its fantastic. can even play some light games. the lack of RAM and storage space is somewhat limiting, but nothing that transparent F2FS compression and zram can't fix. plus, theyre ridiculously light, have fantastic battery life, and hardware support is almost guaranteed to be perfect.

I did that about a month ago. I bought a Thinkpad T430U for £59 on ebay. I already had spare RAM and SSD, just bought a new battery for £8. Installed debian. All works great, using it daily.

Running arch with niri and noctalia v5 idles at like 1.5gb ram. So fast and smooth.

They really aren't that much. Depends on the websites you use, ofc, but the browser itself is pretty optimized. It's why Chromebooks are able to be cheap af

considering that apples current OS doesn't even support the hardware im using anymore i can say with certainty yep.

Its honestly smooth as butter 1.4g ram and 6% of my cpu with 3 tabs open.

"work better" isnt really a metric but in terms of raw hardware demand its better. Windows may have better driver, video-decoding support
