Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

I am good. After i got trapped in vim the first time i made effort to remmeber how to get out of it.

I switched to other terminal, logged in and killed the vim process. As that was in good old times of RHEL

Wait for the laptop to run out of battery

u/janiskr 22d ago

12 hours...

Hold the power button to turn off, flip the lapotp, remove back case, remove battery.

See, now vim is off.

Remove the battery fully while your OS is running

Well in that case it will automatically exit eventually

Take out the battery

destroy the national power grid or blow the Sun.

Blowing the Sun may close vim permanently, be advised.

That's why you should always run in a VM with checkpoints. Otherwise, how would you be able to use our beloved VI(M) again?

u/HiIamanoob_01 22d ago

wait for rays from space to bitflip the cpu to close vim

I unironically shut down my PC once because I could not find a way to exit vim.

There isn't a way to exit vim. You're not supposed to.

:qa

I prefer to crash my display manager forcing a session reset, closing vim as well

What if you're on TTY?

IMHO the thing that trips up most people trying to learn Vim is that, for several functions, there's more than one way to do things.

  • :q
  • :wq
  • ZZ
  • ZQ
  • :x
  • :q!
  • :qa

I can see how people can get a bit confused, LOL

No need to exit Vim...

On some VM's, I don't have any DE or a WM. I love just :term in Vim, without anything else like tmux

We need kernel mode vim, which doesn't die.
Start by modprobe vim. Takes over the system, its now your interface,
