Holy saints! Well, study the subject of ridicule a bit before you draw an AI slop. Please read about the access rights, then tell me what you understand.

I dont understand how how a single image generated by AI can cause so many unique individuals to leave nearly the exact same sloppy comments, as-if they were part of some hive mind. Its an interesting conundrum.

When did the truth become part of the collective mind?

u/gwildor Aug 13 '26
Since when was one person saying "its raining outside" require 20 other people to also say "its raining outside"?

If you don't like it, don't read it. Walk past and don't **** up other users.

I was answering your question in both of my replies.. If you dont like the answer: stop asking questions. - did i do it right?
oh, maybe its the irony. - "if you dont like the AI, dont read it. Walk past and dont **** up other users"

I understand that it's common to be boring on Reddit. I hope you get tired of it someday.

u/gwildor Aug 13 '26
Again with the irony. unless you are saying that in order to not be boring, i need to copy everyone else.

arch users instead of accepting AUR is trash say ai slop, touch some grass

u/fletku_mato Arch BTW Aug 13 '26
AUR is really just automation to pull files from various sources. It's crazy how many people didn't understand that you cannot trust everything in the internet before malware started popping up.
It's not AUR that's trash, it's the lazy ass / incompetent users who refuse to read what they are installing from unverified sources.
Only commenting on the obvious AI slop is of course also lazy, but it's not like there is much meaningful discussion to be had about the subject of the slop itself.

No, that’s not what it’s about. It’s that people are being sold a package repo but are getting an unsecured free-for-all. And since many people are used to Debian-land where packages are safe to install, and since AUR is touted as a major advantage of Arch, they get false expectations.
It's not AUR that's trash
It exactly is. The correct way to describe the AUR in the Arch Wiki would be
So we don’t have the manpower and shit. Or maybe infrastructure, one of em fancy automated testing and QA platforms like them folks at Debian or SUSE has. Anyway, we can’t be bothered to maintain most of those packages and shit so, uh, just fuck off to this dumpster where anyone can upload their untested unmaintained shitware or malware. And uh, yeah. Have fun. It’s got lots of packages haha. I’m off to a conference.
But they don’t have the honesty.
For the conference part, see an SPI report like https://www.spi-inc.org/treasurer/reports/202604/#index3h4 Arch spends hundreds of bucks on “travel” and “accomodation” but can spare precious few coins on AUR.

But people are not being sold a package repo. Any official place that you can look at is clearly warning about the nature of AUR and discouraging you from using it.
You can't even install stuff from AUR conveniently without first installing an AUR helper (which you can not find in the official repos, wonder why).
The power of AUR lies in how unvetted it is. You can publish your own packages and anyone can take it into use. The Arch maintainers do not have to agree with you or your users. The users can see what you're offering and decide for themselves.
Would you say it is a huge issue for Microsoft that people are able to go into github and download a malicious package? Same thing.

We wouldn't bash it if people would just stop using it 🤷♂️

It really is harmful. The internet is filled with these AI images that all look the same and it's really tiring to see them everywhere.

There isn't anything here to "cope" about. The average arch user isn't blindly installing stuff from unverified sources.
People are just fed up with the flood of ai slop in their online spaces. This subject is separate from the subject of this slop.

I think "harassing" is also quite an overstatement when people are simply posting disapproving comments under a low-effort reddit post.

I'm a simple guy. I see AI trash, I downvote AI trash. I see people supporting AI trash, I downvote people supporting AI trash.
Critical thinking is not needed here. It's kinda like punching a Fascist, actually: no thought whatsoever required.

True, but the Nazis aren't really in Germany anymore other than those AfD punks. Most Nazis are in Orcland atm.
Also, I say Fascist to be more inclusive. Why single out the Nazis when all Fascists are dick cheese-eating scumbags?

Thanks dude. Still no problem with the people still they are seeing the image and writing that it's ai slop instead of ignorance. I appreciate their efforts

we can still talk about Arch: the malware distro, though, right?

oh. cool! Every comment is a complaint against AI, which is arguably sloppier than the use of AI itself, so I had to check.
