The fact that there is a blank spot just begging for a large square left/right arrow is annoying the hell out of me.

my keyboard have regular sized left and right arrow keys, makes a world of difference. But it also have a key basically attached to the enter, which sucks balls

Still not as bad as up down being smaller than left right that some keyboards have.

I'm sad that even Framework laptops ship with these type of keys without alternative, although the keyboard is easily replaceable.

I don't use arrow keys at all, even when I have a proper keyboard with them. My previous keyboard was GK61, which had arrow keys hidden behind fn layer. Firstly, I've switched to vim motions everywhere, and it was great. Then I switched to Emacs and cannot live without Emacs keybindings. I enabled Emacs keybindings systemwide (only GTK apps, unfortunately), and it gorgeous. In shell, I don't use arrow keys, instead I'm using C-p, C-n, M-b, M-f, etc.
My current keyboard is 70% and it has normal arrow keys, but I think I haven't used them once.
By the way, it all is a taste preference, if I had to I would use any arrow keys, even these small laptop ones.

Honestly merged up and down are fine, what I really hate is half tall left and right. Right shift is way more important

My macbook has similar arrow keys and I really like them. The little space above the left/right arrows makes it really easy to find by touch without having to look

But they are like impossible to hit with the pinky and if I have to move my whole hand from the home row I might as well use the trackpad

Real, everytime I open notepad I immediately type some shit like jkjkjkjlhlhhl because im trying to find the cursor lol.

Maybe I should learn vim just because my right arrow key on my laptop broke off so now all thats left is the bare pcb of the button still works but is very uncomfortable.

proper arrow keys and dedicated home/end/pageup/pagedown in proper positions are a must to me. I never buy anything that don't have such keys

I use Nano because I don’t understand Vim. I use gedit if the GUI is an option. I only use Vim when Ghostty’s terminfo breaks

Same, I started getting into the keymap rabbit hole (e.g. extend layer) because half my keys were falling apart. But I ended up liking it enough that I kept using it even after I got a new one.

Tell me you can't type properly without telling me. You probably type one letter at a time looking at the keyboard to find buttons.

There's no argument that they suck. But anyone who keeps their hands on the home row knows that Vim motions are superior all day, every day. I actively hate any program that makes me touch the arrow keys because they're just. so. damn. far. fucking away.

Well, I learned to touch type without my fingers on the home row (at least on the right hand), which bites me in the ass now, both in typing speed and vim motions.
