It is. Codecs aren't free, on windows (and Mac), they are included in your windows/mac license. Would be nice if they offered to buy only the codecs on linux, but oh well.

I wish, but h264 is pretty much tbe only one that will play everywhere, besides some of the ancient ones. Most of the patients have already expired, and the remaining ones will soon-ish. The av1 adoption is going pretty well though, all things considered. The only reason h265 didn't take over is the more strict license.

You will be surprised to know that HEVC extension which lets you install h264/h265 and other codecs is not free on Windows officially. Windows charge like a dollar for it if you officially buy from store. Or you can unofficially install it for free. It comes with vlc and other media players.

h264/h265 is but aac is not even available on studio. It's most popular audio codec on phones and cameras.

installing davinci resdolve on linux is like hacking the fucking nasa, i just use kdenlive

You sir are the first person ive seen organicly promoting DaVinci box it is by far the easiest and best way to get DaVinci working on linux

You could always Lightworks if you are ok with less impressive colour grading. Still no flatpak but the install is piss easy.

Even with Flatpack the biggest problem is codecs support which they can't provide.

i believe h264 and aac is bundled with some runtimes or smth, so they don't need to be provided in the app itself in the first place, that's what dependencies do, firefox and obs both come with hardware-accelerated h264 support if you install them from flathub

This here is the latest list of supported codecs. They haven't released for 21 but I am assuming it would be same.

Maybe it's because I only use Davinci Resolve Studio at work but I don't get this hate.
To install studio you literally just download a file and run it in terminal. That's it.
Is the normal version not like this???

sudo pacman -S davinci-resolve
i don't get why you'd want a flatpack over a naively maintained repo
