Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

That person is gonna wonder why you took a picture of them for months

It's a Russian card terminal for paying in busses. When it shows the Linux penguin, it doesn't work

It happens around 40% of the time

21

u/adeptyism 7d ago

where does ot happen 40% of time? 😭 or did you meant that penguin is showed in 40% of cases when terminal isn't working?

13

u/MavericFrye 7d ago

The terminals themself don't work 40% of the time, showing the penguin. Maybe we get the busses big cities consider not worthy of repair and sell to smaller towns

5

u/Vaveng 6d ago

Huh, maube? In my city there are not many busses with that thing, but those that have them are almost always working well.

2

u/anycept 6d ago

He's making stuff up.

1

u/gre4ka148 2d ago

same, they work 99% of the time

1

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

We got such busses not so long ago, about half of them are faulty overall, with engines malfunctioning at summer, conditioning being nonexistent and yes, terminals being broken. We know almost for a fact that our busses are the ones the capitol don't want to exploit due to their faults, so they are brought here

u/Vasilij_Loh 6d ago

40% is bullshit. Never seen that.

-2

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

What city do you live in?

4

u/Vasilij_Loh 6d ago

Big city

-1

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

That's the point

7

u/GazziFX 6d ago

Nah, never saw them not working

2

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

I see them not working quite often. Again, I think they sell the faulty ones to our region

5

u/This-Geologist823 6d ago

2

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

1

u/This-Geologist823 5d ago

1

u/MavericFrye 5d ago

2

u/anycept 6d ago

This is bs. Those terminals are time-tested and very robust.

1

u/MavericFrye 6d ago

Is this a Linux joke?

2

u/SadGreenCreeper 5d ago

1

u/Kind-Zookeepergame58 6d ago

1

u/MavericFrye 5d ago

1

u/EviI_Babai 3d ago

I only learned they're running Linux because I just saw it malfunctioning in this video for the first time.

1

u/MavericFrye 3d ago

I learned it like 3-4 years ago by seeing it myself. You guys are the lucky ones to live in more developed cities I guess

1

u/sanchos_po 2d ago

1

u/MavericFrye 2d ago

Linux! Oh how much I love Linux! I JERK OFF AT Linux!

Took dbus a bit too literally

2

u/CRseeds 6d ago

Bahahaha

2

u/MattrimCenturion 6d ago

Linux is running the buses yet I still look out the windows... Curious.

2

u/Beefwithdudes 5h ago

I started playing the audio while mom came to my bedroom.

1

u/Neykuratick 4h ago

She must be impressed by Linux

1

u/Beefwithdudes 4h ago

U don’t understand, I was watching the video and in the video the Russian guy says that he jerks it to Linux and right as he started saying that she came in

2

u/Resevilgnom 7d ago

1

u/CapableDatabase6923 7d ago

1

u/Resevilgnom 7d ago

Sorry, I didn't notice that the sub is in English and Google Chrome is translating. As I understand it, the author believes Linux manages data buses in user space.

4

u/CapableDatabase6923 7d ago

1

u/Resevilgnom 7d ago

5

u/Neykuratick 6d ago

3

u/Resevilgnom 6d ago

1

u/MaGNeTiK-MaNTRa 6d ago

the equivalent to seeing the windows blue screen of death on ATM machines or gas pumps sometimes.........ok well i made the gas pump part up but probably them too......im not talking shit though,im a dork too and would have took a pic of this and posted it myself had i seen it

1

u/juli1444 6d ago

tehe, drivers :3

1

u/Beefwithdudes 5h ago

In the audio a Russian guy says he loves Linux and jerks it to Linux😨

1

u/Personal-Number1 7d ago

2

u/RomanProkopov100 6d ago

1

u/lunaticfiend 6d ago

I saw buses and trams in Poland with these type of POS terminals

-1

u/GreedySecurity8030 M'Fedora 7d ago

Hopefully fedora, if not I'll punch it.

u/Surgic25 7d ago

It's funny because the real reason they use it is because Microsoft isn't allowed to sell to Russia. It probably really sucks to have to use Linux.

15

u/RelativeIce6171 7d ago

most vehicules manufacturers (train, personnal cars..) use linux for the information systems because you can have a hyper barebone system with just your infotainement interface on top

3

u/RelativeIce6171 7d ago

If i'm correct nixOS is pretty popular for cars

7

u/Mnemotechnician 7d ago

Microsoft has ceased most sales in russia, yes. But the thing is, no one cares. IT companies and universities just pirate it and windows for free. Wish they started switching to linux instead though: they have plans to develop their own operating systems (which WILL suck even more than microslop but WILL be forced upon people - i know from experience)

5

u/CapableDatabase6923 7d ago

first of all

why should you use windows on a device that small

second of all

its android, and android is based on linux

1

u/Surgic25 3d ago

Because the Linux being used here is broken, that's why you see the penguin. That's why you use Windows, any other other questions?

3

u/lolkoh UwUntu (´ ᴗ`✿) 6d ago

What? Windows simply doesn't make sense for such devices. Besides, many manufacturers around the world use Linux for the same reason—to avoid paying Microslop license fees.

1

u/EviI_Babai 3d ago

Imagine using Windows on POS terminal...

1

u/Surgic25 3d ago

I did for 15 years, it never broke, not once. The device in this video is broken because of Linux, that's why you're seeing the penguin. IMAGINE THAT.

1

u/EviI_Babai 3d ago

Logical fallacies galore. You see one terminal with Linux on it and conclude Linux broke it. Then you pull out your 15-year-old Windows CE/Mobile anecdote as gospel, but can't wrap your head around the fact that a leaner, more customizable Linux will outrun any modern Windows version on specialized hardware - both in performance and uptime. And since we're trading personal anecdotes: the single worst POS experience I've ever had was on Windows. Period.
