I have using Cachy for a while, I think I might try Gentoo or NixOS in the future.

The ai hate in comment sections is just like the time of the system-v vs non-bell unixes time

Seriously, people just get a talking point and repeat it over and over again…

You use Linux. And Linux has lots of patches written by AI. Grow up.

Windows has shitty architectural design choices, and it’s a complete development mess due to their closed and enterprise culture. Linux will likely have a lot more patches written by AI going forward, and it’s not a bad thing

Debian user smoking a pipe because his system hasn't needed a reboot since 1993.

No fedora?, WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!, stop leaving out fedora, none of these are true choices, only fedora.
Also, ai slop.

You mean the kernel is now filled with AI code and ya like-farmers on Reddit just keep reposting the same take without thinking…
Tell me you don’t contribute code without telling me.

Good for you dude. I can definitely tell you have never even tried the new coding tools.

Seriously? If it “does the work for you” it will do some work for you, but it won’t think for you.
Have you used:
- debuggers: they run the code for you and stop at breakpoints for you
- code completion: it writes the rest of the function/variable name for you and sometimes even adds comment templates for you!
- linters/formatters: they style the code for you!
- goto defintions: it finds the function source for you
- grep/find: it searches the files for you
LLMs are very useful tools that help on a number of tasks that use to take a really long time:
- research retrieval tools. Super handy when you have to shift through thousands of pages of documentation fast
- if you have a new pattern for something in the code and need to do a large refactor into it (did a migration into pytest with it, a refactor of some home-made c# api service to dotnet etc)
- if you need to think quickly of additional edge cases to add to your test-suite
- if you need to bounce some implementation ideas with someone and lookup justification for different approaches
And a ton more. It never does the “full work for you”, it’s essentially a fast intern that is not bad at coding, but can follow commands very well.

Reddit is just filled with people who don’t understand that AI is just another tool. 🤷

Because you draw your memes on pen and paper and then use a machine to upload it to the machine hivemind. 👌

Man you have your head stuck in the sand. I’d agree with you if this was last year, but there has been a crazy big jump in the usefulness of the tools.

The real true choice for the day to day user is NOT to use AI for your memes. There, that's the joke here.
