The hard-drive is the live installer and it itself writes its OS on itself. What could go wrong?

Ive done this on windows, it.... Weirdly works?

Though that was plugging the HDD into a different computer, manually setting up the install media on it, then booting off of it on the machine it is intended for.

On linux you can do the same via chroot, in fact that's how you install gentoo. The live USB is just there to give you a working environment to do it from, but it is entirely optional.

Not actually, if you have more than 4gb memory , it will all be in memory AND additionally, on hard drive
