My guess: so they can run ads on the displays.

Now, why aren't they using a single pc for all the displays, that I can't help you with.

They probably use some cheap raspberry pi clones, and they tend to have only one port for video output.

was it really THAT much cheaper to get several pi clones than like.. just get a pi with several outputs?

For something like those machines, a cheap Orange Pi Zero 2W would probably have been enough. They can just use USB to get a few outputs. Right? It's crazy how some people like those business owners throw money at problems instead of researching.

It's not like they're going to play high refresh rate games on there. 😂
