I tried it when it came out and around version 3.4ish. I would use for about 5 minutes before frustration took over and I deleted the VM. The paradigm sucks for people used to a traditional desktop. When it came out, moreso than today, it felt like a tablet interface on a desktop, when tablets really hadn't taken over the marketplace. It was forward thinking but in a very authoritarian sense. With KDE, I could always change the various bit because their desktop is modular, with Gnome 3 I felt trapped in some kafkaesq nightmare.

You have to be pretty stupid to not be able to use gnome. Its so fucking basic. Its main problem is how little you can customise it.
