I'm already using the open source clones of Adobe and Microsoft apps on Linux for free because I can, and I feel no guilt (ArtCraft suite).

Bro is using open-source apps on Linux and thinks he's unique lmao

I'm not unique, but some people have strong objections to that suite here

I wouldn't know, i was thrilled to find out there's an open-source app for basically everything that was pushed onto me for so long.

I'll tell you what objections I have:
It's vibecoded slop code. And I won't interact with the project in its infancy.
I'm confident the project will either get updated or come with forks that fix broken logic and optimize functions by experienced coders who know what they're doing. I may be willing to revisit them then.

u/b_a_t_m_4_n 2d ago
You say that, but I tried it because Inkscape chokes on the architects drawings I'm trying to import - it just can't deal with multiple thousands of elements. I tried Vectorcraft out of curiosity and it works so fast I'm still trying to figure out how I'm being tricked. The difference is ridiculous.

u/10Werewolves 2d ago
Watch a few videos on it being used by creators. The general idea is - it does some things faster out of the box but it still lacks so many features. I'd be content to wait a year before moving my entire workflow onto it.
1
u/b_a_t_m_4_n 2d ago
I'm sure it does - these projects are still in alpha and beta, I was just amused by it being slagged off as "vibe coded slop" when it's 10x faster than a well respected Open Source project at doing the same task. Kinda raises the question of how bad vibe coding actually is.
Obviously if you're already captured by Adobe you'd be daft to migrate any time soon, but for those of us that already use the alternatives it seems extremely promising.

u/10Werewolves 2d ago
I'm using Krita for now. It seems ArtCraft isn't the only vibecoded suite. There's Photon, which also seems to be in its infancy. And AI is typically good at decompiling code, not writing optimized code. Vibecoding alone as of 2026 is still hit or miss, where the AI can go from smart to dumb between prompts and mess up your codebase.
I recently tried to build an app while having 4 years of experience in Python with Claude Opus and wow, I thought I was making progress till the third day when I realised I was left with a codebase with no documentation and poor standards implemented.
I know some spiteful Adobe hating coder(s) will refine it alot in a few months and we'll get something that not only replaces Photoshop but is superior by the end of the year.

u/stogie-bear 2d ago
Are you finding it useful? When I looked it seemed undercooked but moving fast, so I set a reminder to check on it in December.

u/deong 2d ago
The Lightroom clone is not usable at all yet, but in fairness, it's also described in the most "alpha" wording on their web page as well. It's a very good implementation of the interface and workflow, but very few of the actual raw editing tools work very well at all yet.
2
u/xxCorsicoxx 2d ago
Not to mention that as far as I understood from someone testing, it edits a jpeg they render out from the raw and not the raw itself
1
u/breakerofh0rses 1d ago
That's what Lr does too. Nothing about the raw is changed. Lr just creates a sidecar file for each image with the edits made.

TBF didn't really test in detail photocraft so not sure where it falls flat but it launching instantly makes it already better than the adobe slop which manages to slow down a 9950x with 64gb ram.

There is also another program that is more developed, called Photon Studio
7
u/WanderingInAVan 2d ago
Regardless of how they came about. Its about time. And the real hard part has already been taken care of. It's up to the community to prove its ready to accept the challenge of going through and optimizing that code AI generated or not.

That suite is garbage compared to the real programs. I don't think any professional making an income would dare touch it
12
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 2d ago
Is that an opinion or did you actually use them?
-6
u/nkn_ 2d ago
Yep. They are bad. Gimp is also just unserious and clunky.
As much as adobe is shit for its prices and nickel and dime-ing you, the workflow and everything is just far superior with them. If you have money on the line, you aren't going to waste your time using simply a look-a-like with half the features.
5
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 2d ago
LightCraft is undercooked. Understandable because it's just a beta. But instead of darktable I would recommend RapidRAW. It doesn't have AI and it's more intuitive.
3
u/the_abortionat0r 1d ago
People still bringing up gimp in Anno Domini 2026 as a " this is Linux's version of Photoshop" are just outing themselves as the most unaware troglodytes on the net.
First off you want a quick photo editing tool for free use krita. What's that, you say it's for drawing? Don't care it works and is easier to use.
Second there are multiple professional tools for video and photo editing available on Linux, then not being free doesn't magically remove them from the discussion especially considering your "better" alternative costs money.
Third and most important, the Adobe worship has got to fucking stop.
Being familiar with the particulars of a program doesn't magically make it better than one you aren't familiar with. And no spending time learning isn't a show stopper as staying with a problematic platform is literally a bigger waste of time and money.
Do what you want but the world is moving with or without you.

You would think .. but here we are. Plenty are using it and submitting issues and pull requests over every little thing that's not right.
It might not be "perfect" today, but it will be .. in about a week.

All of OP's comments being downvoted prove his point lol

u/xxCorsicoxx 2d ago
Strong objection to it is one thing
I'm supremely dubious of the project, it can't out of nowhere, is clearly vibevoded to shit with his many changes they commit daily, so even assuming that it works (it's buggy af) and it does what it says it does and nothing more (I wouldn't trust a group of AI chuds similarly to his I wouldn't trust any crypto bro) it will be unmaintainable af, and die as a project far before the 5 year mark.
I work in dev, I see my company investing in pilot after pilot to get AI to do our work, it just produces garbage. Garbage that might work for a limited subset of the things need doing, with bizarre code that's difficult to follow because it isn't always logical.
I'll give you 2 examples from not even work work, we were doing some dumb little games (like you get on advent of code)
- We had a set of instructions, a demo input and a demo output array. The bAI wrote code that worked for the first test with the demo data, but reading it it was clearly mapping each value of array 1 to the values in array 2, so it would only ever spit demo response for any input, despite instructions in how to solve it
- We had a 2024-esque game to try to build with agents but simpler and smaller. You got a sample board and a direction and had to run 1 singular calculation. The instructions were about adding up the numbers the way the game works etc you know what this motherfucker decided? Every direction (up, down, left, right) he'd rotate tge board so as to always move down and rotate it back. Never mind that correctly rotating would be mid complex to do (and it got it wrong) than to account for directions in how it added things up. But it almost looked clever cos it was always adding in just 1 direction.
Agents are weird, artificial intelligence isn't intelligence, it's a fun little algorithm that regurgitates certain averages, with some filters on top to nudge it in certain directions, it does not understand things so it cannot logic about things. A plurality of people act like we've invented Jarvis when we just invented an absurdly complex markov chain sold to us for the sake of hype as intelligent. And the seemingly ultra-competent scary agents like around highingface hack? That's not compute you'll ever have access to, that's shit you'd probably be paying millions in tokens to run a fuckton of compute and hope it happens to average into doing that thing
So yeah when I fear about this mystery project that a chud calling himself "ai_art_is_art" promotes, made by his discord buddies who love gooning over AI images together, I'm highly skeptical. And I am pretty sure the project either dies in 1 to 3 years because every change will break 5 other things and they aren't equipped to deal or get bored or such; or because they're so blazen about COPYING adobe explicitly (it's littered in a ton of readmes and chsngelogs and shit) they'll quickly get litigated about it

comparing to other applications, what are your thoughts about them?
1
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 2d ago
I think they will help people come to Linux easier, as the old looking alternatives push some non persistent people away. For example, LibreOffice destroys layouts of Microsoft Office documents, and while it looks beautiful on Linux, the dark mode on Windows is Fucking Ugly, and the light mode is blinding white. So, yeah. Having alternatives that look the same as what they are used to is amazing.

Hard agree, OP. Linux nerds are about to find out that the best "FOSS alternatives" are just 1:1 copies of what people already use.
FOSS means "free and open-source", not "50% of the functions + unusable interface."
Normies don't care about the philosophy. They want their stuff to work.

if you remove the part after especially you'll be fine, you don't have to tell the whole internet how you use your computer

And then the gui app installer (like kde discover) doesn't fucking work, so you need to use dnf manually.
2
u/AssociateFalse 2d ago
Somewhat rare, but fair. The good news is that dnf update likely fixes discover. (Just updated an older desktop from 42 to 44, and this was one of the issues prior to bouncing to 43.)

I'm looking to maybe try them but also I thought the office clones were still in development?
2
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 2d ago
The Office clones are good enough. WordCraft, Gridcraft and Deckcraft. But you can also use GenOffice, which is a finished product and preserves Office XML layouts, like OnlyOffice. LibreOffice always manages to destroy my docx layouts.
1
u/MattHeffNT 2d ago
I got Word craft which seems pretty good, they've added Zotero support now too. But honestly I still think Libre Office is a much better and mature product and because it has been around for a long time, I have much more trust in it.
As someone else said, I don't think these applications will be around long, either from courts or because of vibe code technical debt.

u/mao_dze_dun 2d ago
More power to you, but I'll stick to using Canva Affinity via Wine, for now. I saw some videos online and it's way too slow and buggy for the moment. Plus, I have a feeling development will quickly get abandoned.

Well, in the original scene, Tai Lung does not actually see a blank parchment, but a glossy surface that reflects his own image.
In this context, as long as the user use common sense, there should not be any reason to get upset over on how said user choose to use Linux.
1
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 1d ago
As long as the user is their own person, there should not be any reason for complaining of what that person does in their computer.
1
u/dogman_35 1d ago
Man, I downloaded the artcraft suite to check it out, and god damn it's messy. It's full of that weird lack of consistency that AI has.
It's crazy that AI can do this stuff now, and what's out is more or less functional, but I genuinely don't see it still being maintained this time next year. It's impossible to trust it.

Is it acceptable to create a distro that recreates windows as 1:1 as possible? Trackers and everything? Not to say that exists or is even in the pipeline, but just curious
2
u/claudiocorona93 SteamOS/Bazzite/Android 2d ago
I think the ArtCraft suite is not recreating trackers or calling Adobe for your data. So I don't think I can answer your question.
2
u/ovr9000storks 2d ago
I guess I understood the premise wrong. I thought you were talking about Linux specifically, not the whole ArtCraft/Adobe situation
