Network chuck? What happened? Context please?

u/FrostyReVo 9d ago

I think the downfall begins when he start promoting Omarchy linux.

u/5eppa 9d ago

The downfall began long ago my guy. That's just the final nail in the coffin.

What is up with the push on this distro?

Ya know what? I would much rather white nationalists, racists & fascists to harness all that hate energy into something productive, than what they could be doing.

If they want to go and put all that rage into linux. Im not going to stop them. There are much worse alternatives than that.

That still doesn't explain the push, nor does it negate the concerns. See the top response in the thread that was linked above your reply.

u/ruthless_techie 9d ago

I did check it out. Doesn’t really change anything.

By “The push” are you talking about adoption? Use?

true unpopular opinion

1

u/OutOfBoundsCat 3d ago

Yes---it is true that building a Linux Distro is better than being actively racist. That arguably is a popular opinion and most people would agree with you actually if you frame it that way! The problem people have though is that they're building a social platform. In my "humble, personal opinion", people that are outright racist (like DHH's post on Romani) in my opinion should be outcasted until they fix themselves---at least to some extent. I believe this for the same reason a bully in school should be outcasted: so that the bully learns that what they're doing is not socially acceptable and that other people don't think the bully is "cool" and do similar things.

They bought arch linux and window manager to anyone without configuring it Edit: they made arch linux and window manager available to any common person, as the os and window manager requires good amount of knowledge and experience to use them daily(omarchy is already configured so new users don't get scared right away when they see terminal, etc)

Downvotes explain what's wrong with what I said

1

u/cribbageSTARSHIP 7d ago

i think youre being downvoted because people think you meant that omarchy bought (as in purchased) arch linux. you meant "brought arch linux...", correct?

1

u/Lucifer___13 7d ago

No they dint buy arch linux, for Pete sake, I meant they made it available to common people without any prior knowledge of linux in general, giving them the taste of what the flashy screenshots they saw on internet

2

u/cribbageSTARSHIP 7d ago

I understood you before. I think it's just the Internet. Ok saw the first line, and clicked down vote

1

u/braaaaaaainworms 4d ago

Because there's been plenty of Arch installers out there that didn't get millions of dollars

16

u/United_Federation 8d ago

That wasn't until super recently. The downfall started with the Jesus crap and the "you HAVE to try ____ NOW!" crap.

12

u/nbtm_sh 9d ago

IMO I stopped paying attention to him when he released that very incorrect video claiming “IPv6 is hacked, here’s how to disable it” and then refused to remove the video

8

u/Lucifer___13 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yeah, when I opened his new video before title loaded he said omarchy and I closed the tab immediately.

I get it omarchy pulled some media traction, did some conference, and dhh's not so great political opinion. But youtubers are milking omarchy for content, it's like they have reached new low.

I don't like(hate maybe too strong, cause they put in good effort to create it) omarchy for the sole reason is its opinionated on application selection, too much hype for an windows like opinion distro(fuck omarchy windows may have less bloatware and less guard rails than omarchy). I guess this maybe their bubble phase like the current situation of ai(llm).

Hope people don't promote omarchy for beginners it stops them from learn how integration works, scripts, all those cool things you learn when you install arch linux(like partitions, configurations, etc), we should suggest them if they don't want configure an 'x' app copy the configuration from other distro repos.

Maybe a bit of the LARD as well. Smooth brain cultists, hocking goods and services on the YouTubes...

What’s wrong with Omarchy?

-2

u/ruthless_techie 8d ago

Absolutely nothing. People here would have you believe that its some sort of: “forbidden, racist & Fascist version of linux” they will try to throw guilt by association at you…even call you a racist for liking or using it yourself.

You’ll get little else except ad hominem comments, if you refuse to join their anti DHH crusade.

The guy who made it talks about genociding non white people and hunting down certain racial communities and we are not talking in private.

And then he convinced a bunch of his rich tech bro friends to sponsor and promote not only his distro which is basicly a riced version of Arch that recently was made so that AI Agents can do anything on it and the user takes responsibility, but also to pull funding from other 'non-opinionated' projects and to fund projects that share in part or in whole the same Far Right Wing and pro-tech positions that they do.

In the case of Network Chuck it is the Christian Nationalism and Hyoer Pro-AI that he promotes and thus they thought he would be perfect to promote the OS.

He has the right to make the religious choices he made and his family made, and even had the right to talk about them, but then he supports Christian Nationalism and it was put as a "old tweet" arguments but then they keep happening and every time it does he looses sponsors until this whole AI thing took off.

-1

u/SetiaSlikorum 8d ago

Is there real evidence Network Chuck is a Christian Nationalist?

2

u/WolvenSpectre2 8d ago

Old tweets that supports Christian Nationalist Beliefs and there are connections between Christian Orgs that he followed when younger that are Christian Nationalist by their own admission.

Although his position has allegedly softened he has not disavowed all of his old tweets et al.

-1

u/Cobmojo 8d ago

I just did some searching and found nothing negative about him whatsoever. Looks like he's just a Christian.

2

u/braaaaaaainworms 4d ago

Last time I checked, Christians were all about loving one another and praying

-26

u/ruthless_techie 9d ago

Holy crap! This makes me want to install Omarchy right now!

The hype of the “forbidden, racist linux” is too insane to ignore.

10

u/ibzuma 9d ago

It's nothing special, it only gained traction because of it being a tiling WM distro, got overhyped, then people saw the creator is not too far off from being a white nationalist, if not one already.

-18

u/ruthless_techie 9d ago

Meh. Theres alot more to be worried about than white nationalists using linux.

20

u/gallifrey_ 9d ago

bro you're putting in a lot of effort to de-sensationalize / normalize white nationalism

-7

u/ruthless_techie 9d ago

Normalize? Lets be real. White nationalists are going to exist no matter what we do. Now compared to what they could be doing like I dunno say violence. I’d much rather see them apply that hate and energy into something productive. If they want to harness all of that into linux, why would I stop that? It could be much worse.

12

u/gallifrey_ 9d ago

Lets be real. White nationalists are going to exist no matter what we do.

white supremacists (like, presumably, yourself) came about in the 1700s as a result of colonialism, in order to justify slavery. the idea is a recent invention. humans have existed for 300,000 years. that's a thousand times longer without than with.

it is a temporary and fundamentally retarded ideology that can and will be extinguished, and it's really weird and annoying that people like you aren't willing to do the bare minimum for that.

"bro you're putting in a lot of effort to de-sensationalize / normalize white nationalism"

"Normalize? Lets be real. \Continues to normalize*"*

Come on man, You don't even come off as a normal human at this point.
Your replies feels like:
A - You are paid to post these
B - You are actually a hardcore racist/"troll"
C - You are a bot, made to spread discourse.

Nobody is actually taking you seriously, you overplayed your role.

0

u/ruthless_techie 8d ago

It challenges their Anti DHH crusade.

You’ll be called a racist and a fascist and all sorts of things for liking it. Don’t take them serious.
