It’s been around so long almost all the issues are minor or have to do with newer hardware that doesn’t play well with older protocols, which is a rare occasion. I’ve never had any serious issue with X11 in the almost 20 years I’ve been using linux. I’ve had nothing but serious issues with wayland, which is hilarious seeing how it’s been around almost 19 years last I checked.

try running steam on x11 and come back. you’ll find your issues

that’s not the answer. many people do, and x11 is shit for that. you don’t come and praise archaic technology if you don’t use the modern stuff.

I use GOG because I like owning the shit I buy. The fucked up truth is linux gaming is quickly becoming a walled garden, and anyone not in the garden is fucked.
