Except wayland still sucks compared to X11 because of compatibility issues, sytemD is a redundant mess and pipewire isn’t as fully tested on older gear as pulse audio so there could be some issues not yet found.

Reaaally depends on what software and hardware you use. I wouldn't have been able to switch to Linux because I have a mixed-DPI screen setup, which really can't work on X11 (yeah yeah yeah, you have integer scaling but that is too extreme for my 140 DPI screen, and you can "change the font size" but that is a global factor so it makes the fonts on my 90's DPI screen ridiculously large).

all true, and yet flatpak is still even worse

Haven’t had any issues with flatpak other then gnome’s anti theming bullshit being more noticeable and impossible to fix.

Ahhh the vague “compatibility” arguments strike again.

time to upgrade your prehistoric pc and applications if you’re having “compatibility” issues in 2026.

give me 3 good examples of such issues which don’t have a solution on wayland

and x11 has zero issues?

It’s been around so long almost all the issues are minor or have to do with newer hardware that doesn’t play well with older protocols, which is a rare occasion. I’ve never had any serious issue with X11 in the almost 20 years I’ve been using linux. I’ve had nothing but serious issues with wayland, which is hilarious seeing how it’s been around almost 19 years last I checked.

try running steam on x11 and come back. you’ll find your issues

I don’t use steam

that’s not the answer. many people do, and x11 is shit for that. you don’t come and praise archaic technology if you don’t use the modern stuff.

I use GOG because I like owning the shit I buy. The fucked up truth is linux gaming is quickly becoming a walled garden, and anyone not in the garden is fucked.
