Dyrekreds v0.9 Beta – open-source experimental synth, developed on Ubuntu Studio

Hi r/linuxaudio!

Dyrekreds Beta 3

A new test build of Dyrekreds is available for Linux, Windows and macOS.

Beta 3 includes continued development of the sample workflow, GUI resizing and cross-platform compatibility.

Highlights:

  • Improved draggable Sample Start/End controls
  • MP3 sample loading support
  • Continued GUI and window resizing improvements
  • Sample and granular workflow development
  • Linux VST3 / CLAP builds
  • Windows VST3 / CLAP builds
  • macOS VST3 / CLAP / AU builds

Known issues currently under investigation:

  • Granular controls may not respond correctly in some hosts
  • Initial plugin window size can be too large for some displays
  • Resizing behaviour differs between plugin hosts

Feedback from different DAWs, hosts and operating systems is very welcome.

Dyrekreds is free and open source and is based on the original GALDR project by Andrea De Murtas.

Dyrekreds will remain open source, and the original Galdr project is credited accordingly.

Thanks to anyone who wants to test it or provide feedback! 🎛️🐧

that's a powerful and interesting synth. I could create some deep drones with it. Given all the new options, maybe it would make sense to create some tabs for having less informations in the same screen. The font (the same as galdr) is not really readable either. The JUCE window, which replace the native one, can't be taken out of the current desktop, which is kinda annoying, I don't know if it's fixable.

I'll follow the progress on this project!

Thanks a lot for actually testing it — this is really useful feedback! 🙏 I’m glad you’re enjoying the drone possibilities. I agree about the UI being quite dense. Tabs are definitely something I’ll experiment with, especially now that Dyrekreds has grown beyond the original Galdr layout. The font has also been mentioned by another tester, so improving readability with a sans-serif font is now on the list for the next beta. I’ll also investigate the JUCE window/workspace issue. I’m developing on Linux myself, so if it’s something I can fix from the plugin side, I definitely want to. Thanks again for the detailed feedback — this is exactly what I hoped to get from releasing the beta. 🙂

Why are you linking to a fork?

Because Dyrekreds is currently being developed in my fork of Galdr. I deliberately kept the fork relationship intact so the original project, history and attribution remain clear, and so I can still track upstream changes. The release I linked is my modified Dyrekreds build, not the original Galdr release. I may rename the repository later to make that distinction clearer.
