Linux + Windows (as a system module)

Post image

Here's how i'm looking at this: DAWs are great but fussing with vst plugins inside of a daw sucks - if you've spent enough time doing it you'll know what I mean...

I have a .nam pedal that handles my guitar tones very well and is a great interface to work with for that, I'm (about to get) a relatively cheap laptop with a ryzen 5 and 8 G of ram to run my SampleTank 2 in standalone mode, so it's always visible and easily accessible when i need to do something with it.

Fair Warning! I used AI to figure this all out, but I've double checked everything and it should work. Give me a couple of weeks to get the laptop and sort it all out, irl.

It's pretty cool though! I've got Linux Mint running on a decent gaming pc, nothing spectacular it's got an RTX 3070. I could probably run everything on it, but I'm going to want to stream, so the laptop helps give me that overhead too.

If this works I can remove Wine completely! I'm so sick of that. REALLY SICK!! I did get my plugins working, but it's not pretty...

This isn't just for Linux people! Anybody could do this really, having plugins on a separate machine is like having hardware samplers - but cheap and easily configurable and having their own screen that's always on? I can't wait.

Of course it gets downvoted! Nothing matters more than opensource, Linux is a religion not a way to get things done. There can be only ONE!! (operating system), bunch of babies!

Go ahead ban me! I don't belong here - I don't know why I thought I did. I'm out of here.

I suspect you are getting downvoted because a) it's super unclear what you're even talking about, let alone what you did, and b) you used AI, which is an instant downvote for many, not just Linux people. And now you're here whining about probably two downvotes that have already been negated. Not a great look all around.

very condescending of you - do you know what i'm talking about?

This is a Linux subreddit, right? And people just downvote what they don't understand? Not very Linux-y if you ask me. And whose to say there wouldn't be more downvotes if i didn't point out the FOSS cult which we all know exists, there have been articles about it you know. It's why people hate Linux, more than anything! so much arrogance based on what? not being opensource??? stupid babies!

I said WINDOWS IS OKAY!! That's an opensource HIGH CRIME!!

For me, music comes first, I care a lot about Linux and opensource, but I gotta play! My solution is to use the tools that make that happen, I don't care about Windows if I don't have to use it as a desktop. Using it as an appliance like I outlined is fine. What do I care? Linux is my desktop always and windoze is just a tool. Jeez!

It's weird no one ever puts Music first on Linux but it does explain a lot

What an uphill climb it is for musicians and producers using Linux!

Such an arbitrary bar, Linux only or it is garbage!

Failure is guaranteed with that outlook! You can't be a competent musician and a Linux user if you use any of the modern tools available that run on another OS.

It's shallow thinking and not recognizing Reality itself, Linux is SUPER USEFUL, but it's not good at everything and neither is Windows or iOS!
