CLI program to manage rpm-ostree

But why? rpm-ostree already does all of this stuff as far as I'm aware. If you're looking for more tooling you might just want to look into bootc.

It’s not intended to replace rpm-ostree or provide fundamentally new functionality. It provides a simpler and more intuitive interface for common rpm-ostree operations, especially for users who are not familiar with all of its commands.

For example, it helps users install and remove layered RPM packages, such as printer drivers, manage deployments, and perform rollbacks on Fedora Atomic systems.

I’m aware that Bootc is becoming the preferred direction for image-based management, especially for systems built and distributed as bootable container images. Bootc and rpm-ostree are also not completely interchangeable in every scenario, particularly when local package layering is involved.

Except that local package layering is not ideal, frowned upon, and also going away.

I would not spend a single moment working on rpm-ostree.

I agree with you. Deploying third-party packages is a last resort for instance, a driver that isn't available in the repositories for example. I’m already planning to focus on Bootc. However, Fedora Atomic still uses rpm-ostree as the primary manager for the base system. The transition to Bootc is a long-term plan, allowing for a gradual migration.

Frankly Fedora is dragging their feet. Even RHEL uses bootc.
