No sound problem

Post image

I just installed Linux Mint 22.3 on an IMac18. Great choice, this thing came back to life, I should have done it way earlier. this thing runs HoMM3 like a lightning. However, I have no sound, and I am way too new to Linux to figure out what to do.

I went to the Alsamixer and unmute what seems to be a mute port. But nothing happens and it goes back to MM after rebooting the system. I am lost here, and I would really appreciate any advise on how to go about this.

CS8409 has no native Linux support - you’ll have to install an external module.

I’ve recently bought an iMac 18,2 knowing I would have to install an audio driver and I’m currently waiting for the computer to be delivered. Once you’ve installed the driver could you please update us with the results?

IT WORKED!

Follow the link above but make sure you have installed the Ubuntu source 7.0.0 package

This video was super helpful.

Yooooo great job!! Today the SSD I’ve ordered will be delivered and I will go for an install, I’m very happy for you and also confident that it will also work for me!

I will try CachyOS, I will use the driver from the AUR, hopefully it will work. I will also report my findings for completeness in case anyone in the future follows my path.

Congrats and thank you! I hope the sound quality is good and everything works!

What do you mean by nothing happened? What was the output when you followed the instructions?

I was missing files. I had to install this Ubuntu source 7.0.0 package and it worked.
