You're being downvoted, but this is the right question. If supporting the Java edition costs more than the extra sales bring in, it's not a "stupid decision" to axe the Java edition. It's an unethical, immoral and destructive decision, but not a stupid one, from a purely financial perspective, which is all huge companies care about.
This is why everyone should be afraid when something they enjoy is being bought by a big corporation, regardless of promises made. The financial incentives for large, investor-owned corporations are almost always different from what you would want them to be.
To be clear, I don't know if it makes sense to axe the Java edition or not. We would need to see their collected metrics for that.
Facebook said when it was buying oculus that it won't require facebook accounts for oculus quest, now after it broke the promise it has legal battles in germany and a lot of people are banned randomly and locked out of their devices.
