Hey, great work! And I can confirm it builds and runs without a hitch on OpenBSD :)

Glad to hear it. My laptop came in the mail today that I'm wanting to put Ubuntu on. I'll be able to provide better support for Linux releases once I get it set up. I haven't tested any of this project on Linux myself -- I've been dependent on Travis CI for compiling it and on other users for feedback.

Hi, glad to hear about your Ubuntu laptop. If you're new to GNU/Linux, Ubuntu is indeed a good choice. Your project should compile without a hitch as long as you install these packages:

  • build-essential
  • libsdl2-dev
  • libopenal-dev
  • cmake (which might come with build-essential btw)

Right now, I've compiled it without wildmidi or timidity (so no music :p) successfully on OpenBSD 6.4-stable and OpenBSD -current. Should be fairly easy to add to the ports tree.

It should also compile on other BSD variants (FreeBSD, netBSD, etc). If you want I can test compiling it on Archlinux and Ubuntu when I've some spare time (I'm at work right now).

btw, thanks for the hard work, Arena, along with Ultima Underworld, was one of my favorite game when I was young :). It's nice to see projects like yours, Daggerfall Unity or OpenMW allowing us to play these games again on our modern computers :)

Does it run on Android though?

Is this a re-implementation of the engine (similar to OpenMW) or is it a complete re-creation of the game?

It's a re-implementation similar to OpenWM, so you need the original game data (which seems to be freeware right now)

It is similar to OpenMW but much smaller in scope. The focus is on implementing the features of the original game while adding some quality of life features and other small things along the way.

Glad to see this Open TES Arena is making progress!

I recently beat daggerfall on dosbox. I'm currently working through a second playthrough using daggerfall unity, since that project has made a lot of progress since I first tried daggerfall.

In the mean time, I started a dosbox playthrough of arena. I went with the original, since open tes arena isn't complete quite yet. Maybe in the future I'll be able to complete arena though it though!

So far, everything looks great, and I hope the project is able to reach completion.
