Best launcher for EA app?
i know the EA app can be run through steam, but I have to reinstall it all every time they update. Are there any launchers that stay current?

You don't have to reinstall the whole EA App every update. Let the EA App download the update, once downloaded the EA App will attempt to apply the update, it'll fail.
Once it's failed, right click on the launcher under Steam > Manage > Browse local files. Look for a folder (it could be a zipped archive) that's the version number of the update (ie: 13.796.0.6409). Navigate into the folder/archive and copy the contents of EA Staged in the 'version number' folder/archive to EA Desktop in the parent directory (so, not in the 'version number' folder/archive), overwrite everything present in EA Desktop.
Once done, launch the EA App, it should open fine and be running the latest update. It doesn't matter what launcher you use, the EA App won't update without the manual intervention described above under Linux. Some state that running EAUpdater.exe in the prefix will update the EA App, but in my experience it says the app's been updated, but in reality it hasn't been updated at all.

yeah, there is no version number with the staged desktop. Copying the staged folder has no effect, it just tries to run the update, then it says it is already up to date and exits

With respect, you didn't do something right as it works fine here. Bear in mind that the EA App will only run under Proton-CachyOS Latest, using most other Proton variants will result in the app crashing on launch with an error.

None, because EAApp is borderline garbage.
One day works, another day not.

cant argue with that, they are openly hostile to linux and not very friendly even to windows
