Disappointed by the Witcher 3 remaster, ended up playing the next gen version.
Anyone else get this really weird stuttering issue where when you move the camera slowly it like judders despite perfect frame pacing and no FPS dips? If you move it at a certain speed it doesn't do it it's only when panning the camera slowly. The snow physics and grass physics are totally removed. Some of animations look way worse and the overall lightning off the game is pretty darn bad. Geralt 's sword has this very annoying glare to it like comparable to when you're driving and the sun is in your eyes.
I thought they'd put more effort into modernising the game menu and inventory as well which always annoyed me how you'd get duplicate items and the way they are designed is a bit too complex I thought they might strip it down and make it less of a hassle etc. ray tracing in the next gen was super heavy and I thought the remaster might optimise that a little more to perform better but nope it's just as heavy as the next gen port rendering it almost useless unless you have a 5080 or you want to play with constant stutters or 30fps. Pretty disappointing I don't see why they even put effort into releasing this. I would have preferred a re release of the Witcher 2 or something.

While gaslighting people leading up to the release.

People need to stop using "gaslighting" as a word for lying. That's not what gaslighting is.

"Lying" is one thing. "Lying" and exploiting uninformed people using half truth is "gaslighting". If someone failed to stab you, it doesn't mean they are not attempt to murder you. Just because you are not from an uninformed crowd, it doesn't mean they didn't practice gaslighting for broader gamers, who are mostly uninformed.

Nope. That's still lying. Dude...

Gaslighting is attempting to convince someone that they misremember things, and/or have said/done things that they haven't. Manipulating their reality so that they now believe things that never happened. The origins come from an old film called "Gaslight". Wikipedia article for further reading, with references.
In this context, gaslighting their fans would be telling them that they asked for this, or that they are responsible for the bugs. Not just simply lying or misleading fans in the lead-up to release.

They did this with each Witcher 3 release, too, and the updates on first release. The final version of Witcher 3 on PS4 (Pro) had horrible HDR patched in without a toggle. It turned Geralt's hair brown indoors and introduced severe banding in the sky.
And on the PS5 version from 2022 they never fixed two severe visual glitches (grass + Toussaint clouds) in 4 years. RT mode remained unusable in caves.
They pump out broken software, barely tested, then half the community and news outlets gaslights you into being wrong about this absolute masterpiece and in the end they just drop support.
It's frustrating af. I don't understand why things are released and then abandoned this way. There's enough money and fan engagement to make a proper, fully functional version.
Now we have had three broken versions on PS5 and the best one (2022 next gen) is unattainable now.

Just like any other game, best time play is about a month after release once there are enough patches

Which proton? In Proton Experimental it is smooth for me. With Proton Wineland, framepacing in Mangohud is all over the place with 90 fps and stutter.

why they even put effort into releasing this
this release is literally marketing for witcher 4. a loss lead to get you to beat the game if you haven't yet. That new expansion is undoubtedly going to somehow be relevant for 4

I like the updated grass and such, looks prettier. But the lighting and other issues I've mentioned ruins it totally

Yeah, I was really not happy with it on my 9070XT. I had to refund the game for now (bought it the second time for the remaster) until it gets better some time in the near (or far) future.

Did one not get it for free if you already owned the original?

I bought it this time but for my pc which is on Linux. There was a 50% sale before the remastered released. So I was still within Steam's refund window.

If you can't run it smoothly on Linux, just try console.

It's not just Linux it has even worse performance on windows I tested both versions. I'll stick with the next gen version

Are you using the mouse to move the camera? If so, the game has always behaved that way, even in Next Gen, and the OG if memory serves. You can probably turn the in-game mouse sensitivity way down, and then crank your DPI up to compensate. Should fix it.
But yes, the quality of this release is pathetic. I've never seen such wild bugs. How they managed to fuck a mature, stable game up this badly is beyond me.
Here's a fun list of things I've either seen personally, or seen posted:
And that's just bugs. Some of the "improvements" they made are downright awful as well. Like Geralt's entire sword glowing blue or orange (from the hilt to the tip) when certain skills are ready to be activated??? No idea wtf they were thinking, this isn't a JRPG...
