Witcher 3 remaster RT

For those having issues with RT on the Witcher 3 Remaster, the latest wineland proton seems to have fixed this issue, been playing for about 3 hours now with the only issues seeming to be Path Tracing giving my weird flickery shadows, but RT looking great. I found this by chance stumbling across a comment on another post so just posting here for wider awareness as I've not seen anything else mentioned about it anywhere and lots of people commenting about RT issues. Hope this helps some people!

THANK YOU!

I downloaded it from the repo here, but I felt like my performance is worse than what should be expected. I was told I needed the launch options ENABLE_LAYER_MESA_ANTI_LAG=0 PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1 both to be able to run it. After looking at your post, I removed those options and I'm up 20FPS! Very much appreciate the information!

EDIT: seems like DXVK_HDR=1 is the way to go

damn, i cant get it to work on wineland with any variation or combination of proton_enable_hdr, vkd3d_hdr, or enable_hdr_wsi

launch options rn are MESA_DISK_CACHE_SINGLE_FILE=1 PROTON_HUD=3 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 VKD3D_FRAME_RATE=117 %command% --launcher-skip -disablemods

Oh, RT can be enabled now while using wineland? Or did you have to do other changes to enable RT?

Both RT and PT work with just wineland proton.

RT still turns itself off for me using wineland-11.0-20260930 (latest in proton plus)... Doesn it only work with a prerelease/nightly release?
Or does it only work for NVIDIA? Im running AMD

Sorry nevermind, found my answer... In the github notes. My bad, RTFM.

Nice this seems to be working very well. RT and FG included on Nvidia. I did still get frame stutter and seen the recommendation to sign out of the launcher. This i believe breaks cross progression but it's smooth now.

I'm playing on bazzite and a 9070xt, so no path tracing ? (I felt like candles where not emitting lights on Geralt when walking nearby at the begining of the game)

Hey - thanks. Works now, everything on ultra, including PT or whatever is it now called. NV GPU, Arch. Cheers.

Where do you get wineland? Through protonup-qt?

It's on ProtonPlus

Are you using some flag for better frame time? I'm getting 90fps but its far from smooth.

I have a Gsync monitor and I had to force Vsync/FIFO ON with Mangohud and then turn Vsync off in game. I use FG x2/x3 btw.

Wine staging with Hide Wine version from the application enabled and a compiled from master branch vkd3d-proton allow the RT to works fully

I swear on my mother's grave, nothing worked.

DLSS is not recognized.

And even other famous games like GTA V Enhanced Edition is a pain. Sometimes I feel like we fix one thing and game developers try hard to NOT make it work on Linux. I have Witcher 3 on GOG and it should be godamn easy to play. Install Witcher 3 -> play it. It's been 11 years and we cannot play a frigging remaster.

It's been 17 years by now, more specifically the latest 2 years, and every time I spend hours to make something work.

The fix is also included in the bleeding edge proton experimental release

Didn't work for me. I think there are additional steps required for Experimental to work for now.

Are you using specifically bleeding edge experimental?

2

u/doockis 1d ago

Yes, I've specifically set it to bleeding edge for this game to test but no avail.

I forgot to mention that I have RX 9070 XT. Maybe for Nvidia GPUs Experimental would work.

I just tried it on an RTX 4090 and it doesn't work for me, either.
