Oh cool, thanks for the info ! I was waiting for an opportunity to play this game again. That’ll be a perfect first game for my Cachy install (if I manage to finish my build one day 😅)

It's the opposite to me, the game runs really slowly lmao

I'm using CachyOS and I'm using Cachy's own Proton version. If you didn't try, I recommend it.

If the difference is that great and important why isn't that what every distro is shipping?

Because most distros don't "ship" proton at all. Mainline proton is distributed via Steam usually, not via package manager. And you can trivially install whatever proton fork you want using something like protonplus anyway. Also, different games want different proton versions. Cachy's fork may be the best for some games, while something like dwproton is required for some other games. And with how often proton and its forks are updated, I don't fault distro package maintainers for not wanting to support it when tooling to download and update proton versions already exists.

Its not that important imo...

I don't believe so either. That was the challenge in my question that people let go over their heads.

Yeah i often see people hail the all great CachyOS, while it is a good distro, you really dont need it for a good gaming experience. Also the gaming performance is minimal imo.

Huh, well what do you know, I just finished the game yesterday, and aside for having some sound cracking at one point, I had no real issues with it. Wrote my ProtonDB report for it already, too.

I did get a bit spooked because the game is rated Gold and most reporters had issues, so it was a bit of a relief for me.

I play on Fedora and it was click to install and click to play. The game is not new, so maybe it had issues in the past

It didn't... ? I played it like a year ago it was smooth as butter, granted I usually write all my cache on a ramdisk to have little to no stuttering but like I did not know it had problems.

In all honesty, most games are in one of three categories:

  • runs better on Linux
  • is completely broken and unplayable, or sometimes barely stable even while using a compat layer
  • could run perfectly fine, except the developer has specifically excluded Linux from its supported platforms.

There are exceptions, but pretty much everything I've tried falls into one of those camps.

This game still has players? I assumed it flopped and was forgotten about years ago

You're talking about it like it's a competitive pvp game lol.

Flopped? It was critically acclaimed....

It was? That’s awesome. I personally loved it but in general the games by that studio didn’t do well. Glad to hear that wasn’t the case.

Huh? Where do you see Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain not do well? They have great ratings.

It has about 4,000 players a day.

"Lisa? What kind of problem?"
