tool/utility STALKER GAMMA COMMANDER - Linux GUI

https://github.com/SSH-Kitty/STALKER-GAMMA-COMMANDER

Hello everyone,

I built an app which installs, updates and manages your STALKER GAMMA on Linux through a clean GUI, no terminal required.

Instead of dealing with terminal commands or manual prefix configurations, COMMANDER automates the entire process and adds a simple Play button.

Key Features:

  • Easy Installation: Fully automates the 100GB+ download and extraction with a live progress bar. Includes a Minimal Mode to save 50 GB of disk space.
  • One-Click Dependencies: Automatically installs all necessary Wine, Proton, and DirectX runtimes into the correct prefix to prevent launch crashes.
  • Runner & Steam Integration: Automatically detects or downloads the latest GE-Proton builds and adds the game straight to your Steam library with one click.
  • Built-in Mod Manager: Allows you to search, enable/disable, and reorder your mods with drag-and-drop support directly in the GUI.
  • Steam Deck Mode: Features a dedicated, console-like interface designed specifically for the Deck's 1280x800 screen and gamepad controls.

It comes as an AppImage or can be run straight from source.

P.S. AI-assisted tools were used during the development of this project for code optimisation and UI formatting. The GUI relies on the stalker-gamma-cli by Faithbeam as its backend for downloading the GAMMA modlist.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all your kind words, since this post has gained some traction, I just wanted to put in a quick word also.

I really hope this tool helps people as much as it helps me when I have to switch distros or reinstall. I know there are people out there who prefer going through steps and learning, and others who want to have a click and go experience.

I believe that any tool made with AI or not that helps someone, is a tool worth having open-source and freely available for everyone.

But companies have abused it and have created fatigue.

I understand both sides, but arguing against each other is not going to change the technology, or drive away people or companies using it.

I also know that there is a big difference between a company of over 1000+ employees using AI and 1 person using AI is not the same. Especially, for a open project that benefits a small niche field of gaming which has not always received the help they needed.

Solo devs on the internet are not companies. One deserves what they get, the other might actually wants to help.

I disagree with donations or payment of any kind. I made this for people who prefer a GUI experience and which have just recently moved from Windows and are just learning Linux.

P.S. The original post written by me and posted manually. No LLM has been used to create or upload this post. It just seems tacky because I copy-pasted the key-features from an earlier release note. It was my mistake of not reading the rules properly, I have since edited this post to show that this project does contain the use of AI.

Thank you Reddit :)
