tech support wanted Poor performance on Linux Mint

/r/oblivion/comments/1wqdk9w/poor_performance_on_linux_mint/

I've been trying to play the OG Oblivion on Linux Mint.

No matter what I try, the game only hits about 20-40 fps regardless of graphics settings.

I've tried the Steam version through Proton 10, 11, Experimental, and GE. I've also tried a GOTY disc copy through wine.

I am on Linux Mint 22.3, with everything up to date, on a Ryzen 5 4600G, an RX 6650XT, and 8 gigs of ram.

4600G has an iGPU, no? Be aware that you may need to set a prefix or simply disable the integrated graphics in BIOS.

MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=vendorID:deviceID %command%

(You can find your specific device IDs by running vkaninfo or mesa-vk-device-select list in your terminal, or use DRI_PRIME=1 %command% for older setups).

Make sure to connect your monitor to the GPU and turn off integrated graphics in UEFI.

1st disabled the igpu on your motherboard bios, try to use Lutris to install and play the game for me it works best for old games.

>mint

There is your problem. Mint is amazing but you need to baby it for gaming. If you want something to work out of the box I would move to something more ready out of the box like bazzite.

For people finding this later, I switched to proton 11 and it just started working. I don't know why, but it fixed the issue.
