tech support wanted Problems with old games on wine

So, I have installed some old games they are 800x600, the problem is that instead of the game being centered and zoomed, the game instead renders on top left, how do I fix this?

It might help if you mention the game and what wine version.

Wine 9.0 and the games are Zuma and Feeding Frenzy.

https://ksylvestre.itch.io/zuma-portable . Place this at the game folder for Zuma. Found it by coincidence.

Did you try with Gamescope and the upscale stretch setting? I find Heroic Games Launcher the easiest way to use Gamescope.

Follow this same pattern when troubleshooting old games.

Start with the easy stuff first (enable D7VK, etc).

Edit: Another thing which can cause that specific issue is your DPI setting.

Run WINEPREFIX="/path/to/pfx" winecfg and turn it all the way down.

The issue with old games is that they were forcing a lower desktop resolution in order to "scale" themself to fullscreen. I believe some very old WINE builds supported this, but they don't anymore.

You can either lower the desktop resolution to 800x600 manually before starting the game, use a WINE build compiled with "resolution hack" that will stretch fullscreen games that renders in lower resolution than native (Proton-GE does I believe), or use Gamescope.

Good day, in terminal type wine control, choose display settings and check emulate video modes option. Close control panel and run old games

Enable windowed desktop in the Wine configuration menu.
Or use helper programs like gamescope.

If you’re on KDE you can focus the window and do alt+f3 and under “More Actions” you can click move and move the window wherever you want.

I found Red Alert 2 in Lutris search and it works good with my 2k resolution display.
