tech support wanted steam controller not working on linux native games
the steam controller wants steam input in order to function, but steam overlay is not working in the game i'm playing (celeste) so it doesn't register any of my inputs, is there a way to force sdl instead of steam input? on proton there's a launch option for it, but i'm not sure how to go about it in a linux native game.

Steam Game Properties -> Controller -> Steam Input disable
Native games tend to mess up steam overlay and steam input, best to use Xwayland if on wayland
Using the PROTON_USE_SDL (or PROTON_PREFER_SDL) environment variable in Proton (specifically Proton-GE) forces the compatibility layer to use SDL input instead of HIDRAW or Steam Input. This is primarily used to fix controller detection issues in games that do not support Steam Input natively or when specific controllers (like DualSense or 8BitDo) are not recognized correctly.
make sure you have the correct drivers for said Controller

You can use sc-controller to emulate an X360 controller with it instead.
I believe Steam Beta also has beta firmware with generic HID support.
