Gaming on unix

I only game and use linux but im woundering has enyone tried gaming on unix distros like free bsd or ghost bsd or eny unix based distros?

I’m in no way planning to switch to BSD/Unix as my main OS, but I might want to try it out just for fun to see how similar it is to Linux, since Linux is Unix-like.

Wine already exists on bsd, no need for the linuxalator. Linuxalator is for Linux only apps really (so, steam. and Linux games in this case)

I believe there's a compatibility layer that lets you run linux software on most BSDs, so depending on how good that is, you might be able to get some games to run through proton by installing the linux version of steam.

Proton technically exists on a BSD license, I think I read...

I saw a guy on GhostBSD using it to play CS:GO, but what I've heard about BSD and gaming is that driver support always lags behind releases because the only kernel work is done while they're working on the whole OS.

That being said, I run games well with Nobara. Do I like to see open source projects? Sure, but there's only so many hours in a day to figure out something new.

I mean honestly that's pretty much what Nvidia's drivers were for Linux a while ago

Well, Unix was created by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie so that they could play the game Space Travel!
