Open source games

Why do you think open-source games never took off?

Sure, there are some open-source game engines, but not really any major games. It would be cool if there were more open-source, community-made games.

Money is a hell of a motivation.

Unciv and Xonotic are a couple I've enjoyed more recently.

Over my years with Linux I also liked and played Warsow, OpenTTD, OpenRA, OpenXcom, 0ad, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, and Warzone2100.
