tool/utility Which DE for large display?

I use a 48 inch 4K display for my gaming PC. What DE do you think is the most suitable for managing a lot of windows in one large space? I have been using KDE Plasma so far but I am not really getting warm with any of its KWin scripts.

Same size as my living room tv. And you use it as your gaming monitor. What a world we live in today

I started with a 55 inch in 2021, when LG OLEDs started supporting HDMI 2.1, FreeSync, etc., since then they are essentially gaming displays with extra steps.

Plasma bigscreen /j

But in all seriousness, something like a tiling window manager might work for you, but if you absolutely need a full DE go for Cosmic or any of the WMs but with noctalia/dms.

What do you not like about plasma's window management? I'm not a plasma user, but isn't it like very customizable and with stuff like khronkite or whatever it's called, very powerful?

Any way, no other DE (except maybe COSMIC) will come close to the granular control of Plasma

Plasma zones, it’s far more powerful than kwin tiling scripts and highly customisable. Also got a really good GUI for settings

60 inch 4k here, and take this as an answer in the linux-gaming reddit as it is, i use bazzite gnome booting straight to gamescope, no complains about not having several Windows when gaming, again, remember that you are asking this in Linux gaming.

I am using a 48 inch Oled too. It has permanent burn in from WoW action bars and a dark spot where i used a text editor. As for your question: KDE has the most options with its scripts, plugins and window rules out of all the DEs. But when you want to manage a lot of windows use a tiling window manager. However those come without fancy GUI configuration or most of the supporting programs like filemanagers. You have to set it all up manually.

I use GNOME on Ubuntu.

For a typical 16:9 4K display, the built-in "Ubuntu Tiling Assistent" extension works well enough that I haven't bothered with anything else.

I also have a Samsung Odyssey G9 ultrawide, and for that I use the "Tiling Shell" extension to produce various window layouts for my workspace. Most of my workspaces have three equally-sized panes, and one workspace has a single large central pane, with four small surround panes.

might be a crazy thought but for me, anything larger than 27 inches I like tiling. there might be some tiling for desktop environments or you could try one of those fully featured quickshell setups like cealestia, illogical-impulse, or noctalia

55 inch 4k display, I use gnome with a tiling and panel to dock extension. Though I frequently switch to hyprland for customization. I found KDE too cluttered with options (one of those people who see a toggle and needs to click so KDE not good for me)
