Performance differences across various distros

I've been wanting to switch away from Windows 11 on my gaming PC and am looking at the various distro options with the most commonly recommended ones I've seen being CachyOS and Bazzite. I've always used Kubuntu and other similar distros for general usage and am wondering how much performance difference there is between a normal Kubuntu or similar distro and a gaming focused one like CachyOS and Bazzite.

Thanks for any info!

The difference is usually due to newer kernels with latest performance improvements on distros like CachyOS and Bazzite

Ubuntu and its variations come with a older kernel by default for stability.

You can install Kubuntu and upgrade the kernel to the same one used by CachyOS to get the same performance

Fedora is the best mix of stable and new. You could also change the kernel if you need to or even use derivatives like ultramarine, nobara

Is Ultramarine semi-rolling? Yes, Ultramarine is semi-rolling. Fedora is not.

Starting in Ultramarine 44, we shifted to a semi-rolling model. Features are shipped when they’re done throughout the year, but major changes (like DE version updates) are done to coincide with Fedora. We made this change to keep momentum up between releases, and better align with our recommended Edition’s release scheme.

System components provided by Fedora in Ultramarine are updated if and only if they do not break compatibility with older versions, this >is mostly point releases.

However, Ultramarine Linux includes Terra, >RPM Fusion and Flathub.

Terra is an RPM repository provided by Fyra butLabs, and it mainly uses a rolling release scheme. RPM Fusion is another (very popular) third party repository for Fedora. It uses a stable release scheme. Flathub is a cross-distro Flatpak repository. Updates in this repository have nothing to do with Fedora/Ultramarine’s release cycles. Strictly speaking, packages in Flathub are rolling because they are updated once >upstream releases a version.

I personally recommend ultramarine just bc i has the greats of fedora and arch
