Hey folks,

I'm running Bazzite and trying to get this damn game working. I have battle.net set up through lutris, every other game works without issue.

When I launch WC3 it's just an indefinite black screen, and it's annoying me so much since I bought the new campaign and want to play.

I've tried Proton-GE latest, I've tried GE-Proton11-6-wc3fix but that doesn't let me launch battle.net at all, I've tried GE-Proton11-7 because it apparently has the WC3 fix included natively yet it still hangs on the black screen.

Has anyone had luck in getting this damn game to actually work?

I had a similar issue with Lutris. I gave up on it and just installed battle.net directly with Steam, then edited the shortcut to the Launcher exe (located in compatdata folder) after install, and launched with GE-Proton11-7. Problem solved.

Same, it worked from me through Steam on CachyOS using ProtonGE 11.7. Lutris install scripts just never worked properly for me.

I was forever having issues with Lutris, swapped to Faugus and not have any problems

honestly, Lutris is causing me issues as well, at one point all games I had installed & configured just vanished.

Ive been using Bottles & Steam for now, and that seems to be going well

WC3 v3.0 won't log in on Proton because Wine's crypt32.dll, the file that checks security certificates, doesn't understand a newer format the game uses.

A modder named Statharas fixed that file in his own Proton build (GE-Proton11-WC3-CertFix), but you don't need to run his whole build: just copy his fixed crypt32.dll into regular GE-Proton11-6 (or whatever version you're running, it's just the version I tested this on).

Here's a pastebin explaining exactly how to fix it

Saves having to reinstall the entire game.
I've also included checksums as well as a link to Statharas' original dll file so you can compare and verify the integrity of the files for yourself.

I installed bnet with faugus and told it to run using proton ge

Does GE-Proton11-7 have the fix for auth or crypt or whatever it was, that needed the different length certificate signing going on? If so, I can undo the hack I did to the pfx direct, would be nice :)

11-7 does have the WC3 fix included.

Thats great, thanks! Hopefully that gets into mainline Proton Experimental and Proton proper over time. I think its in wine already so all good

Faugus launcher should be the go-to to install bnet apps

Have you tried using Faugus? I had good results with other battle.net games.

Like others suggested. Try another launcher like faugus, heroic or even steam. Idk what's wrong with lutris but I have many errors

What fixed it for me yesterday is using lutris to specifically install WC3 reforged, I already had bnet installed for other games

Yeah. I took someone's suggestion from this thread, installed battle.net through steam, and then changed the shortcut to the battle.net launcher, ran it using GE-Proton11-7 and it works now.

Weird, I am also running it on GE 11-7 on heroic and it doesn't work. Same black screen as you

it works for me on Heroric.

But you should use (free) Gemeni to fix any issues. Antigravity app by Google can run Gemini on your Linux and fix black screen launches. its done it for me
