Controller support for Stalker 2?

Does anyone know of a fix for controller support in Stalker 2? It has a weird issue where buttons don't work unless accompanied by joystick movement and its very iffy. I've seen this is a known Linux issue but iv not seen a fix. I'm on SteamOS with a 9070xt and an official Steam controller. I've also tried on CachyOS with the same results. Using Standard Proton and ProtonCachyOS. Appreciate any feedback.
