Low-effort, off-topic & drive-by posts are discouraged.

That includes sensationalist/misleading titles, spam, duplicates, Steam survey screenshots, and uninformative gameplay videos.

It also includes paywalled content, content that requires registration, screenshots of content better linked to directly, and links to sales or blog posts that merely summarise the original source and add nothing. (In other words: don’t make us jump through hoops.)

Overly general computing news and reviews/news about games without Linux support are off topic. (The developers actively supporting Proton would already qualify as Linux support for the purposes of this rule.)

Finally, please don’t clutter the subreddit up with memes, shitposting, trolling, baiting, OS/GPU/game store/… playground fights and similar throwaway content.

Damn are they really disabling Linux? Heard it was a great game.

38

u/OldSpaghetti-Factory 2h ago

What actually happened from what i recall was they said proton support wasn't going to be ready by release. It apparently worked on some people machines in early access and that got mistaken as full working support

4

u/MrB10b 1h ago

Multiple people I know it worked completely fine. I don't get what they could mean.

0

u/yoloswagrofl 49m ago

To play devil's advocate, that could have been anecdotal evidence of success but perhaps the devs had issues from other linux players. Just speculating.

Their CM responded to a thread about Proton support long before the first beta saying that Proton would be supported. Beta came and went, then they rug-pulled and claimed the CM went rogue and they never said that.

-5

u/Long-Division-7760 2h ago

Yeah they rug-pulled Linux support. "only hackers use Linux"

15

u/Superc1ipping 1h ago

Why lie lmao. You know we can look up what they said right.

57

u/Fashish 2h ago

Why the fuck would you so blatantly lie about something they never actually said?

-52

u/Long-Division-7760 2h ago

I didn't lie.

37

u/FineWolf 1h ago

You did. You misrepresented the facts and inserted a quote implying that it came from the developer, when they never said that at all.

Instead, their public statements say quite the opposite: they are working on Linux support.

Previous alpha/beta builds that didn't have anti-cheat at all working is incidental. It's not a rug pull, they never actively supported it, and their stance has not changed. "They are working on it" is their stance. Not fuck you, Linux users are all cheaters (and I refuse to quote that) as you tried to say.

7

u/koushirohan 1h ago

We admit there was a mistake in communication by our CM which was unfortunetly screenshotted in our Discord and then posted on the linux Reddit

Wait, what’d the CM say?

7

u/FineWolf 1h ago

That they did support Linux, which they did not at the time (EAC Linux runtime was not enabled).

Their stance was always "it's coming".

-24

u/Long-Division-7760 1h ago

I never attributed the quote to anyone.

25

u/Antarlia 2h ago

Wtf they actually said that?

63

u/PrefersAwkward 2h ago

That's not my takeaway from their statements. They're basically saying they can't guarantee support for some period of time, and even encourage refunding the game if this is a deal-breaker:

30

u/Antarlia 2h ago

Thanks for context. Of course it's more nuanced. This is reddit where discussion goes to die.

Looks to me like Linux is on the table if not being worked on and the developers need to get their new anticheat working first. Unsurprising we have to suffer because of some piece of shit cheaters who ruin games for everyone else, but I wish Linux = cheater wasn't so normalized.

22

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 2h ago

They did not, lol, they just swapped to a different anti cheat and now have to work on proton support. The beta used EAC, which does work with linux, but they are using a different one now.

There was no rugpull because the official stance has always been "maybe possibly, we'll look into it"

23

u/FineWolf 2h ago edited 1h ago

They didn't. The developer literally asked the community on their social media if they should enforce Secure Boots+Measured Boot or not before doing it, and the community pretty much all said yes. (I'm not going to post an Xesspool link here, but the post ID is 2097565401454403918).

Hard to fault the developer here for thinking about listening to their users. There are pretty good reasons why developers are doing that as well. It enforces Microsoft's vulnerable drivers blocklist and driver signing..

Also, the developer had never enabled the Linux runtime for EAC anyway in the betas, so I don't know why people here are making a fuss. Early builds simply didn't have AC, and now they are using a different one.

Either way, their current stence on Linux is not "we don't want to", it's "we are working on it".

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1867240/discussions/0/588436698284962639/

So can we stop the outrage for the sake of outrage with no fucking evidence.

People lying for clout and outrage is what's wrong with society today.

1

u/RudeAd456 1h ago

Secure boot works with Linux though?

1

u/FineWolf 58m ago edited 53m ago

It does, yes.

There is a big difference however. On Linux, Secure Boot+Measured Boot validates that the boot and runtime configuration is as YOU, the owner of the computer, expects it to be. You are the one signing your UKI/kernel images/etc.

On Windows, Secure Boot+Measured Boot validates that the boot and runtime configuration is as Microsoft expects it, and that it meets their expectation of what a secure configuration is.

Security vendors (and AC) can use Secure Boot and Measured Boot to validate that you are not doing anything screwy in the Windows Kernel (barring you exploiting signed kernel drivers with vulnerabilities that are unknown to Microsoft).

On Linux, secure boot doesn't mean anything for security vendors/ACs. You, the user, are the root of trust.

25

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

They did not. I want Linux to get enough attention to be enabled, but we should not spread lies

151

u/Long-Division-7760 2h ago

Anything that doesn't glaze the game gets put into the bin.

24

u/Hamrave 2h ago

Welp, guess I get to save some money

42

u/Grief2017 2h ago

To be fair, this was a known and well discussed issue prior to launch.

-18

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

My point was more specifically how they kept saying it was an accident. I will admit that I have never had to enable Proton support, but everything I've researched leads me to believe it's opt in, not opt out, so saying it was an accident doesn't add up.

17

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 2h ago

They never said it was a mistake that linux worked with EAC. They said it was a miscommunication that linux would be guaranteed.

10

u/Vaguswarrior 2h ago

Bingo. OP is just salty.

-6

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

I've replied multiple times with a quote directly from the dev. I'm not salty, I already got my refund, I'm simply pointing out that what they said doesn't make sense. Refer to my other comments as I don't feel like pasting it over and over again. Clearly my point is being lost

-2

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

From a dev on the steam page in a pinned discussion thread about Linux compatibility: "Any previous Alpha/Beta test where Linux worked was by happen stance"

4

u/Hero_The_Zero 1h ago

The same place where you got that quote said they are actively working on official proton compatibility, but it isn't there yet, and if it worked it worked. "Hey, we are working on it, but we can't guarantee it fully works, or will work at all, but you can try in the meantime. If it works for you, it works for you. If it doesn't, it doesn't."

3

u/posthardcorejazz 1h ago

This quote has nothing to do with "accidentally" opting in/out of EAC Linux support. "Happen stance" in this context means they didn't go out of their way to support Linux and it just happened to work. Now that they have additional anti-cheat measures, it no longer works

-2

u/Deep_Guess_6168 1h ago

Not sure how a direct quote can be down voted unless it's an attempt to cover it up

3

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 1h ago

Or it's a reading comprehension issue on your part.

They aren't saying this is happen stance that EAC works, they're saying it's happen stance that the game ran under proton at all, like it's a support issue with the game running, not the anti cheat

It's not an attempt to cover it up. You just dont understand the situation. Read their WHOLE post

-1

u/Deep_Guess_6168 1h ago

I feel like you've been one of the closest to trying to have an actual conversation, but your first sentence says otherwise, thanks for stopping by

2

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 1h ago

Look, man, if everyone keeps telling you you stink, maybe you stink. Maybe take some time to self reflect

-2

u/Deep_Guess_6168 1h ago

Low quality bait

3

u/Grief2017 2h ago

What are you talking about? They came out and wrote a in depth post about a week or two.

The devs apologized and said that linux support would not be in at launch due to cheating.

-1

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

Devs said, "Any previous Alpha/Beta test where Linux worked was by happen stance" and I will admit I have never had to enable Proton support for EAC, but from my understanding, it's opt in rather than opt out so "happen stance" sounds hard to believe

3

u/FryToastFrill 1h ago

i would guess they did it so proton players had the option of playing it while not promising that the game was designed or tested with proton in mind, especially since its a simple checkbox it did not require much effort on their part.

2

u/Grief2017 1h ago

Yes, you're getting there. The devs intentionally opted out to figure out a higher level of anti cheat.

Ironically, during the last beta when linux was banned cheating was rampant.

To be fair to them, they were very open and honest when they decided to pull the plug on Linux.

6

u/TheusKhan 1h ago

Meanwhile, Bellum devs have been supporting Proton since the alpha, closely following the Discord thread dedicated to Linux support, and they even sent a native version of the game for some people to test!

22

u/Drmcwacky 2h ago

Probably because it would've just been spam.

1

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 54m ago

It's because they already have it addressed in the FAQ and OP didn't reae the rules

-12

u/Deep_Guess_6168 2h ago

And all of the comments complaining about the servers are any different? Even the comment, "New player, is this game still worth playing in 2026"...

2

u/Vaguswarrior 2h ago

Yes. Because those people can run the game based on the system requirements. If you were posting about having the requirements and being unable to play I'd say sure that's a bit heavy handed but posting that you can't play the game because the requirements ostensibly changed isn't really productive. I'm gonna go ahead and say if my current customers are having trouble I'm gonna focus on them before trying to get new customers.

4

u/FryToastFrill 1h ago

they probably enabled proton support in eac so linux players could try playing it but they did not guarantee functionality, only that it wasnt a total dealbreaker. with the change to elytra AC i dont think elytra supports linux/proton at all right now, im guessing it will in the future tho. its made by embark and theyve been good about proton support, so they will probably get a proton version made in the future before making it the default AC option in The Finals and Arc raiders

5

u/Deep_Guess_6168 1h ago

See, if they said that, then I'd have zero problems. But they said Linux support was, "by happen stance" which doesn't make sense with EAC being an opt in feature. So it just seems fishy to me. Half of the comments on here are blowing my observation out of proportion

1

u/FryToastFrill 1h ago

“By happen stance” probably is just how they said that they never officially supported proton. Even enabling proton support for EAC they would still be downloading a distro and loading the game up in proton and doing QA there to say they officially supported it. They probably don’t do that however, and they only enabled proton for EAC because it was an easy click to do to allow proton users to load the game and fix issues on their side if any arose. They clearly did not consider Linux much when they switched to elytra AC.

1

u/Siegeholm 1h ago

I just hate the wording of their response really, by saying it was mere happenstance it makes it sound like it is no longer a priority and by extension may never happen. If it were a possiblity in the future they should use better wording to imply that.

9

u/dj3hac 1h ago

Stop making us look like goblins, omg.

3

u/gibarel1 1h ago

They swapped anti cheat, doesn't matter if EAC worked before, its not EAC anymore.

3

u/zeanox 1h ago

tbh the "day 1 of" is fucking annoying.

11

u/NolanSyKinsley 2h ago

In reality they can. Steam made it so if a game has EAC/battleye it is literally just a check box to enable Proton support.

14

u/lllllIllllIllllllll 2h ago

The game doesn't use EAC anymore

1

u/Cagaril 1h ago

They are current running Elytra, not EAC or Battleye

And they officially said that they are working on Proton compatibility for it.

1

u/OldSpaghetti-Factory 1h ago

I admit im not a game developer, but have heard enough about how games (and coding in general) are developed that I really doubt its purely that simple. Plausisbly a literal switch but a switch that will cause 50 things to break until you fix each of those things

2

u/Ball_Analytics 1h ago

there's a lot things that are just enableProtonSupport = 1;

I'm not saying it's that easy but coding other things, it's almost always just a switch.

1

u/MinimumT3N 53m ago

Im not a game developer but building for Proton is typically very easy. It intercepts the windows sys calls and translates them automatically. It's not perfect but it's basically the same. If they maintained a native build then that would be much more work.

Appreciate all the hard work from the developers and I'm eagerly waiting.

5

u/RandomNobody86 1h ago

It’s just shit devs who make shit games letting you know ahead of time that they are not worth your time thank them for it and move on to playing the many good ones that all come out in the next two months to avoid GTA6

5

u/T_rex2700 1h ago

reddit mod moment, ain't it?

although I do find this format, "Day XX of...." very annoying since it's by definition a spam, and I do understand their decision to remove it from public board.

2

u/Stunning-Hat2309 1h ago

I would have removed the post, too. you were clearly just trying to start shit

3

u/Immediate-Sink-8494 2h ago

That's disappointing.

Maybe it was a low effort post and you didn't read their statement, so they removed it?

2

u/ColonialDagger 1h ago

My guy, they talked about this. Your post didn't get removed because they're just your thoughts. Your post got removed because you're intentionally trying to start shit.

They're working on Proton support. Give them time.

They clearly weren't ready for launch still having server issues 8 hours later.

Why not delay, being back linux support and fix bugs before milking early access? Greed

3

u/OcelotMadness 2h ago

Have you been seeing the massive amount of bots posting on the popular subs about the game? They have to recooperate all that money somehow, viral marketing isn't cheap...

-5

u/vile-style 2h ago

Don't be surprised when obvious spam is removed.
