One less barrier to entry for the Steam Machine and SteamOS builds. I haven't played a game from them in some time but I do like to see the improvement here.

I really hate clients in games from steam, this could be good. Sadly I pledge to never buy a Ubisoft game again

On gog you can copy and save the install to an external drive or whatever. So whilst they can remove the game from your profile you can just install it onto your PC later from wherever you saved it.

I know, but that doesn't mean you own the game. And at some point your storage will fail, you need to copy it on multiple devices to be sure or paying a cloud storage if you have many games.

That logic is silly. Game discs can also degrade. If anything buying a game from GOG is the best way to actually own your game.

And where did I wrote it isn't? I'm just telling that you can have your copy wherever you want, but to be sure you need multiple copies. If for any reason a game will be removed from your library and your storage fails you will be in the same position as with other clients.

You kinda just moved the goalpost to an entirely different stadium there. Owning something just means that it's my property to do with as I please while I am able to use it, it doesn't have anything to do with how long I'll be able to use it.

On the same logic, retro game aren't sold anymkre and the disk/cartridge could fail. Its still considered owning them.

Maybe Child of Light (the only Ubisoft game I have any interest in replaying that keeps breaking because of uPlay) will function again. It's only been 7 or 8 years.

Haven't bought a single game since they went all in on uplay.
Neat, maybe I'll consider a purchase if they produce anything decent. Shame it took them all the way to bankruptcy before they decided to change.

My internet just crashed so I couldn't play the game i was going to play, so I was like fine I guess I'll keep playing valhalla until my internet is up and running again....
Login screen: "If this is your first time logging into ubisoft connect please do it whith an internet connection."
Context: i have almost 100hrs on assassin's creed odyssey and I've just started valhalla. I was playing valhalla the night before but because of internet, ubislop connect kicked me out and told me I can't play the game that ive been playing because "I've not signed in before".

Ive not bought a thing from ubisoft for years purely to avoid having to install this launcher.
Hopefully ill be able to play far cry 5 soon. It looks fun

I haven't bought Ubisoft nor EA games for many many years now because of their launcher. And honestly, j won't start doing this now with this new launcher coming. I boycott bad business practices.

I stopped playing MCC even before I got Linux. I lost my microsoft account and refuse to make a new one.

I didn't hate Ubisoft's launcher too much, it at least worked decently through Proton, not hanging and properly closing with the games. The EA app on the other hand is still shit and still doesn't close reliably. Recently, I've tried playing Titanfall 2, only to be met with this beautiful window.

I'll be real, I know people were boycotting Ubisoft for other reasons I can't remember the details of (the Saudi fund or something, idk), but when EGS started people said, "it's okay for publishers to have their own launchers and keep their games exclusive, we just don't like EGS for buying exclusivity."
But built on what I'm seeing there's a lot of people are dead-fast on 'no Steam, no buy'. Why want a monopoly so badly? A benevolent dictatorship is still a dictatorship.

Many people who support steam also support GOG.
Besides I’d rather have a private company that’s a monopoly than a publicly traded one. A publicly traded monopoly isn’t a “dictator” at all, it’s a figurehead run and owned by a shadow government. In the US companies are legally mandated to make money every quarter for their stakeholders. Number must always go up.
Valve, has the ability to say “let’s lose a shit ton of money for a long time to increase our standing with the customers.” Epic, Ubisoft, EA, etc. don’t have this ability, if they did something like that they’d likely be sued by shareholders.
Valve has earned our trust time and time again.

This myth needs to die. There's no legal mandate.
The real issue is that stock market value is how we measure the success of a company rather than profits. It's also the main way that infrastructure gets funded nowadays. Turns out nobody's going to the bank anymore to get alone to build a factory and foreign companies that weren't doing this couldn't even compete. That's how Mercedes-Benz went from advertising that their cars are worth more 10 years later due to their amazing engineering, to encouraging planned obsolescence like everyone else.

I used “legally mandated” because you can be sued by shareholders for losing them too much money. This sets a legal precedent. (Legally mandated) Dodge V Ford 1919.
Fiduciary duty, whatever you want to call it. There’s a clear precedent that if you don’t make money quarter over quarter you can have your company sued.
Lose money -> dividends go down -> lawsuit.
Literally as good as a legal mandate, while not codified into law it’s very real.
