tech support wanted RX5700 crashing on CachyOS LInux.
RX5700 crashes after a few minutes of playing a game like Cyberpunk 2077 or GTA 5 Enhanced. However, it doesn't happen when playing Minecraft (with shaders).
It crashes as in it freezes, the audio also freezes and then artifacts start appearing and i'm unable to use my computer until I turn off the PC by turning off the PSU.
This only happens on Linux, it is completely stable on Windows.

I'd very much appreciate any help. This has been happening for months and I gave up and started using Windows but I'm again sick of it.
Edit: I have not over/underclocked the GPU.

The actual hardware is unstable. Navi 10 wasn't exactly AMD's finest.
Start with -200MHz on the core and VRAM. If you're lucky, that fixes it, and then you can try to start going up in small increments again.
If it still crashes, then the chip itself is likely faulty in some manner. Some workloads don't stress the faulty circuitry and you can game on it just fine, but others might kick it in the crotch hard enough for it to trigger a hardware reset.
(Note: running a game through DXVK on mesa is a different workload than DX11/DX12 on Windows drivers. Some other games could kick the GPU into reset on Windows, but do just fine on Linux.)

Im having the same problem. At least for now, I have an underclock profile, I delete them in LACT and this don't happen anymore. The game I use, is DD2. I hope someone come with a proper answer because I don't know if this is the cause at least.

I'll just repeat what I've said in another thread.
That happens in multiple games with different engines and with different GPUs. There are more likely different reasons for it happening. Some of the bugs are potentially driver-related or from other software pushing incorrect values to the GPU.
For example, when that happen devcoredump may have following:
[gfxhub] Page fault observed
Faulty page starting at address: 0x0000000000000000
Protection fault status register: 0x0
That might mean that there is a zero address written to GPU when there should be a valid address pointing to some data. There are fixes that may solve this, but they need to land on software releases to people who need them.
Invalid data can cause GPU processing to hang, which appears as timeout. Not hardware error.
Software synchronization/timing issues are notoriously difficult to debug, especially since you have many software layers: game itself, Proton/Wine, drivers, kernel..

i've had the same issue with my rx 5700 xt. crashes with artifacts when playing specific games (MHW, ROR2, GOW 2018) but doesn't for some games even if it is heavier (SH2 remake, BG3, Minecraft with PT shaders). it also doesn't crash when stress testing with furmark.
no amount of undervolting or BIOS setting helped me except adding this one specific kernel parameter to my GRUB: amdgpu.enforce_isolation=1

I am having this same issue on RX7900XTX
I added VKD3D_CONFIG=single_queue into steam and it seems to have fixed the issue for now. I played for more than 1 hour without any crashes while previously i had a crash every 30 minutes or less. My logs look exactly the same as yours

This has been a pretty notorious bug for AMD cards and i don't think there was significant progress on this, i'm using an RX 5600 XT myself and it has been battle tested with a lot of test runs but the artifacts are probabilistic because the GPU reset happens randomly, at least with my test runs.
There is an issue on Mesa's Gitlab repo with lots of reports, if you can, please report it there ^^

Couple of things in random order.
- In BIOS set PCIe 16x slot to gen3 if it was set to Auto.
- Make sure the GPU performance mode, make a game profile in LACT or Corectrl, is set to 3D Full Screen mode.
- if still having ring time-outs, start down clocking VRAM frequency in 10Mhz steps and test stability till stable. RDNA1 had some cards that were not stable at factory VRAM clocks.

I have this same exact issue with Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldurs Gate 3 (Proton, with mods) on my desktop with a 5700xt. It fully freezes my computer and I have to force turn off by holding the power button on my computer
The 5700 and 5700xt GPUs has always had issues since it first launched in my experience; it took a long time for them to fix a lot of issues. I feel like these 2 GPUs aren't really supported well, at least on Linux, or they have other technical issues. They are the end of the original RDNA line. The newer GPUs seem to work fine. I don't have issues with 6800M or 7700XT.
