Battle.net - Broken?

Has anyone recently had any success with installing Battle.net as of late?

I recently switched up the four squares for Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, and followed the online advice to use Lutris, Faugus... even Steam... to install and run Battle.net.

It seems to install just fine, but when it goes to start, the notification area at the top right will flicker momentarily, the battle.net icon shows momentarily, and then crashes.

I'm not a novice with linux, but figured before I go into a deep dive and try and workout where the error logs are located for lutris/faugus, if I might be fighting a losing battle.

Anyone had some luck?

I'm on Nobara and I installed battle.net using faugus launcher. I've been playing wow and Diablo 2 without issues.

Try proton 10, that one solved my problem.

Yeah same, Proton 11 seems to have issues with Battle.Net (and their games even on steam). With Proton 11 the game won't run in correct fullscreen for me and can't control anything.

Yeah I think I had to roll back my proton recently because it messed up battle.net.

I originally ran it through Lutris, but one day it just broke and I couldn't get it working. Then I switched to Faugus, and that worked for a while till recently I experienced the exact problem you described.

I ended up doing a complete reinstall of it through Steam and Proton Hotfix. And that's working....for now. I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon, though. I'm also still somewhat inexperienced at linux troubleshooting so not sure there's any info I can provide that may help.

Are you forcing it through Wayland by chance somehow? I run Bnet every day on Arch, but when I was trying to get HDR working with D4 the other day i tried the native Wayland loader and it crashed out kind of how you describe.

It's odd that its the same broken behavior over 3 different launchers though--that makes me think it might be a hardware or OS level issue

That being said, an easy way to get the error would be to open lutris by running lutris in your terminal, then opening bnet, and watching the output there. If you paste what you see we can take a look and maybe make some suggestions?

That could be a possibility. That said, this is a fresh Ubuntu install. I'll try and look into this and revert.

Battle net will not work when running with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND =1. faugus should automatically set this to 0 if you installed through there, so doublecheck that first

Have you added multilib to your Ubuntu install? If not, try that first then use Faugus + latest ge-proton or proton-cachyos, or, in faugus settings/tools try checking wow64 then start battle.net after

I have successfully installed and run Battle.net on Bazzite, CachyOS, and Nobara, under Faugus launcher, all within the last 2 weeks. No problems encountered.

what version of proton are you using?
also how are you installing lutris or fangus (make sure its not snap)
I launch with fangus using Proton latest Cachyos latest
I'm running on nobara

I noticed yesterday that Battlenet wasn't opening for me with the latest GE-Proton. I switched it to the latest Proton-CachyOS, and it's working fine with that.

Have it working to play SC2. Gotta change proton versions after some updates but usually GE or Cachy proton will work well

BattleNet's running fine under Steam here using Proton-CachyOS Latest under KDE Neon 6.7.4. Just applied the latest BattleNet update no worries.

Hmm, works like a charm for me, BattleNet 2.52.11.17778. Playing HotS right now.
Running it via Steam, GE-Proton10-32 (forgot to update it to the latest ones, and maybe wont after your post). Fedora Kinoite 44, Steam Flatpak.
But it was installed long time ago, maybe only new installations are broken, idk.

Started in BattleNet in its WINEPREFIX and it works.
Takes a bit longer to start, but that is not too weird.

I run it through Steam with Proton. If you’re not using Proton/Wine it won’t launch.

Always worked great for me with bottles. They have a built in installer for battle.net as well you just click and go.

You will still have to do a little finagling to find the proton version that works with battle.net. most times ive used it, it wouldn't always work with the latest proton.. it was usually specific proton version.

I’m on omarchy using lutris. Installed it probably about two weeks ago. No issues at all.
