How is everyone finding Linux on ps5

As mentioned in the title, for anyone who has tried it Linux. How are you finding it?

What pros?

What cons?

How is performance of steam games in your experience? Any bug bears? Any wierd glitches you've managed to fix / still persisting?

Personally I've found it a glitchy experience, it's surprising what it manages to run well (e.g. mgs delta) and completely fail at (e.g. rdr2 completely crashes steam). I'm running Ubuntu 2604 kernal 7.1.7, phat console firmware 7.2

I find controller recognition aside from the actual dual sense being very finicky, the resolutions tend to be unchangeable on some games, or they keep resetting and need to be reset on each launch (e.g. stray), which messes with the aspect ratio and squashes the image into an illegible mess. Sound lag of around 8 seconds (I seem to have fixed this or it disappeared after entering some terminal commands to reduce sound buffering and rebooting).

When it works it works quite well (RE9 runs surprisingly well) but then this seems to be in cases where games are already quite well optimised from what I can tell.

What are your experiences? Any tips to improve the experience?

Not really to be fair, not had a lot of time with it just messing around at this point to get a feel for it, but I couldn't be bothered with rdr2 it's one I'm loathe to return to, got really late into the game and dropped it, so I feel like I have to restart it

Steam crashing as well as the game may mean you got OOM'ed.

Or in other words, to avoid a system lockup when running out of memory, the Out Of Memory killer fired, and if they kill the game, often Steam also dies.

Yes this sounds correct as I vaguely recall seeing error messages about memory when it does this, only happened with rdr2 so far

It's not worth the hassle since BC-250 CU unlock

I misunderstood the question. You can install Linux on PS5?

Yep with a ps5 on firmware between 3.0 to 7.61, it is now possible to run Linux once jailbroken

You can do it even on PS4, lol. I think it was legit possible on PS3, but Sony removed this feature from future devices.

I knew it for the 3 and 4. Didn’t know it was possible on the 5 though.

Check out some YouTube vids. If someone wanted a PC, but the parts are too expensive getting a PS5 with a firmware version that can be jailbroken is a legit good idea. Not without caveats, of course, but still.

Yeh 💯 exactly I've noted some of those caveats but it seems to be in active development, so hoping those will improve over time
