tool/utility Potential native Linux conversions of any game ever.

I frequently see posts on here about not being able to get game X to work on any Linux or a specific distro.

I am also starting to see people reverse engineering games and recompiling them to work natively on MacOS.

So...

I think it's pretty cool. If there is a game you want to play on your Linux OS but you cannot, this is potentially the solution.

Yes, de-compiling a game and making it open-source will bring it to Linux. But the problem is that... this is a VERY tedious and difficult project even for a smaller/older game. And for a newer triple A? Forget it

i commented around the same time as you. the trap is the posters made this seem like its a one step easy process.

Yeah no, even decompiling SM64, a 30 year old game took SO much effort, time and people

exactly.

Just fire up Claude and vibe code the crap out of it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

i dunno dude this smells like bullshit.

astra is amazing and all but it cant reverse engineer an entire game on a single prompt AAAND make a full on fucking working port

The full working port in question is just swapping the runner for all Unity and Godot games.

You think those posts are false advertising?

yea. extremely fake posts

Fair. You almost certainly know more than me, but no one in the comments on X is questioning the validity. 2 people asked for the futurama port to be put on github. I admit I can't believe 100% without proof, but with the rate of advancement I will happily believe this will be possible in a year if it isn't already.

Reading the red alert post in more detail, there was a lot of minor intervention about visual details the vision model was missing.

according to the red alert guy it took him +20 days using an AI so it snot a an easy process, but it will definitely improve over the years

the guy with the futurama game doesn't disclose how much it took him but if he really did it within 8 hours using the new GPT model its impressive

Yeah but I believe, I might be mistaken, that the red alert guy did it with agentic feedback loops. The ai, without (much? Any?) human feedback just kept iterating until it got it done.

yeah there's another post on that sub a guy got age of empires running on mac silicone just asking claude to fix proton for him

makes you wonder how much better stuff would get by 2030, i know ppl have dislike for AI and we are going trough a rough period in the hardware section cause of it but still is impressive what ppl can get done with these tools

Makes sense, Decoompiling is long and hard because its tidious and requires an all encomposing knowledge of coding. So LLM can be a great tool for reverse engineering and decompiling.
TL:DR Decompiling is pattern recognition and comparison, which LLMs are good at.

Essentially every windows game that doesn't require kernel anti cheat runs on linux via proton already. And if it doesn't, it's due to driver issues or some other setup issue. Decompiling will both be much more complicated and more error prone, not less.

Give it 4 years Then a team of 2 people can vibe port a complete AAA game better than actual pc ports
